OUR MISSION:
Provide nurturing, play-based early learning to support each child in realizing their potential while giving families peace of mind.
 
JOB SUMMARY: 
The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) collaborates closely with all other members of the program team to provide nurturing play-based early learning to support each child in realizing their potential while giving families peace of mind.
 
Job duties are performed in accordance with RisingOaks’ Program Statement, policies, values and beliefs, the Child Care and Early Years Act and the College of ECEs Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, under the supervision of the Centre Supervisor.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma
  • Registered member of the College of ECEs in good standing
  • Practicum experience in a child care setting gained through post-secondary program or equivalent
  • Standard First Aid and CPR (level C) training
  • A clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
  • Demonstrated knowledge of domains of childhood development
  • Knowledge of the Child Care & Early Years Act, its regulations, and licensing requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of How Does Learning Happen?, Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years.
  • Knowledge of curriculum theories, observation and documentation techniques
  • Knowledge of a diversity of family contexts and the impact these have on our work with children.

General Responsibilities:  
Qualified applicants will be responsible for providing a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment; as well as showing sensitivity to the individual developmental needs of the child. They will also be responsible for planning and maintaining the highest quality experience for their children that is age appropriate to enhance children’s development, while ensuring the philosophy of the program is upheld. They will be responsible to build relationships, effectively communicate, engage and encourage their children in a fun environment. They will be ever mindful of our best practice guidelines (including ratio and scheduling) and lead by example. 
 
Main Duties Will Include:
  • Planning, developing and implementing programs of stimulating activities which promote the physical, social emotional and intellectual well-being of the children.
  • Supervising children within the program both indoors and outdoors.
  • Serving the children snacks and lunch.
  • Responsible for record keeping (i.e. attendance logs, etc.).
  • Maintain a safe and engaging environment.
  • On-going communication with parents/guardians.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings and agency meetings as required.
  • Report to the Supervisor.
  • Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act and associated legislations
  • Demonstrated understanding of How Does Learning Happen?, Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years
  • Above average oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labour laws, Employment standards Act, Human Resource laws in Ontario
  • Demonstrated knowledge of problem-solving and conflict resolution skills or principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theories and approaches to observation and documentation techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diversity of family contexts and the impact these have on our work with children.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of available community resources and organizations that support children and families
  • Demonstrated knowledge of domains of childhood development

Responsibilities:
To plan and implement age-appropriate programs to enhance the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional develop of children according to Jacob Hespeler Childcare Centre’s Mission, Vision, Philosophy and Program Statements, the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, How Does Learning Happen?, and Public Health Guidelines.
To adhere to all JHCCC policies and procedures as set by the Board of Directors.
 
 Qualifications: 
  • ECE Diploma, Degree or equivalent as approved by the Ministry of Education, or working toward your ECE qualification
  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators, not required if currently enrolled in ECE Diploma course
  • Valid Standard First Aid & Infant and Child CPR level C certificate
  • An original Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within 6 months prior to being hired
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination (2 dose minimum)
  • Certificates of completion of WHMIS and Health and Safety Training
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with families, colleagues, school board personnel, and the community
