Responsibilities & Qualifications vary according to role, but some common responsibilities are listed below.
 
Responsibilities:
Must be able to plan and implement age-appropriate programs to aid in the development of children while considering social, physical, cognitive, and emotional development.  You will be responsible for effectively communication with the children, co-workers, families etc.  Organization will be key in ensuring success in your role as you set priorities and complete tasks with minimal supervision.  You must be flexible, dedicated to your job, enthusiastic and dependable.
 
Qualifications:
  • ECE, Child & Youth Worker, Recreation & Leisure Diploma, Degree or equivalent program as approved by the Ministry of Education, or working toward your ECE, Child & Youth Worker, Recreation & Leisure qualification.
  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators (unless you are still pursuing your studies).
  • Valid Level C First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • Vulnerable Sector Check dated within 6 months of hire date
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination.
  • WHMIS as well as Health & Safety Training

What you will do…
You will provide welcoming and inclusive environments where all children and families have access to high-quality programs and services influencing positive child, family and community experiences and outcomes. 
  • You will engage parents and caregivers in conversations and experiences, sharing information about child development, parenting, nutrition, play and inquiry based learning, and other topics that support them in their role as their children’s first teacher.  
  • You will support Early Learning and Development by providing experiences that build responsive adult-child relationships and encourage children’s exploration, play and inquiry, supported by How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years.
  • You will respond to parents and caregiver’s questions or concerns about child development through conversations and observations, using validated tools and resources, and linking to specialized services; making connections for families during and beyond the early years.    
 
What you will bring…
You are a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), or are actively enrolled in either the Bachelor of Early Learning Program or an Early Childhood Education program. You have knowledge and expertise in child development and play and inquiry based learning. You have experience creating environments that nurture relationships for children, parents and caregivers based on the latest evidence and research.    
You have a demonstrated knowledge How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years and experience delivering high quality early years programs.   Relationship building, communication, adaptability, creativity and innovation, and teamwork are key competencies you rely on in your day-to-day work.

Part-time Child & Youth Connector Required for 2-year Contract Reaching Our Rural Youth Project, Wilmot Township Location 
Wilmot Family Resource Centre (WFRC), a charitable, multi-service organization, requires a contract part-time Child & Youth Connector (17.5 hours per week) for a two-year contract at the Wilmot Family Resource Centre New Hamburg location.

This is a unique opportunity for a well-rounded community focused individual to support the Reaching Our Rural Youth Project. This opportunity will champion the initiatives of our community agency in providing for children and youth living in Wilmot and Wellesley Townships. WFRC offers a supportive, positive work environment that encourages impactful work assisting people where they are in their lives. Staff enjoy having input in program development and professional development opportunities, while having their work-life balance respected.

This position will work closely with the Child & Youth Coordinator (CYC) of both WFRC and Woolwich Community Services, the project Youth Ambassadors, and most importantly with community youth members. The Child & Youth Connector will work collaboratively with the Child and Youth project staff, children and youth, and the community stakeholders to identify children’s program needs, program delivery locations and potential partnerships to offer children’s programming to complement existing programs and services. This role will also work collaboratively with partner agencies to work to expand the range of programming available in the rural townships.

The goals will be to: support the implementation of a youth driven Rural Youth Engagement Strategy that better serves and supports youth living within the Townships; to coordinate youth initiated, youth focused ‘Connection’ opportunities that will define the specific needs and wants for the children, youth and their families living in the rural Townships of Woolwich, Wellesley and Wilmot; and to coordinate the implementation of the outcomes.

This position will also include working a flexible schedule with daytime, evenings, and weekend hours, and will be provided with office space at Wilmot Family Resource Centre.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Degree or Diploma in Social Sciences and volunteer supervision experience
  • Background in recreation, child and youth work, social services • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of computers and various software such as Microsoft office suite, and social media applications such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Experience with Canva an asset.
  • Possess an ability to work well with people and exemplary customer service skills
  • Be flexible, highly organized and a self-starter
  • Use a non-judgmental approach
  • Have knowledge of community resources an asset
  • Be able to problem solve, manage time well and be able to prioritize responsibilities
  • Be able to work independently with minimal direction
  • Have reliable transportation
  •  Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 virus
  •  Clean Vulnerable Police Records Check
  •  CPR and First Aid certificate

    Part-time 17.5 hours per week, a competitive wage, 2 weeks paid vacation per year, and mileage compensation $0.50/km.

    Responsibilities:
  • Assists with planning, implementation, promotion, administration and evaluation of program(s) to meet agency goals
  •  Ensures programs and services are managed in accordance with the agency’s policies and procedures to ensure the safety of participants
  • Ensures youth are involved in the program planning process
  • Provides opportunities for children and youth to be inspired by positive role modeling
  • Encourages partnerships with various groups and agencies, acting as a resource to provide leadership in the youth-centered activities
  • Monitors the delivery of programs to ensure program goals of fostering self-esteem, resiliency, empathy and skill development of children and youth are being met
  • Assists with coordination of the agency’s organized events including planning, entertainment, promotion, fundraising, media and public relations
  • Deals effectively and tactfully with parents and the general public in receiving, directing, and relaying concerns to the appropriate staff
  • Other duties as assigned 

    Pending funding approval: 35 hours per week for 10 weeks. Evening and weekend shifts may be required.
