Sunshine Montessori School (SMS) is a co-educational independent school for children ages 30 months through Grade 8. Located in Kitchener-Waterloo, we offer an outstanding Montessori program where students can realize their potential by igniting their natural curiosity and passion for learning.
Qualifications
  • A Conestoga College Early Childhood Education student who has completed at least two semesters and has a desire to learn and practice assisting within a classroom environment.

  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Sunshine Montessori School staff. To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected standards throughout the school, staff will be held accountable for adhering to their schedules.

General Job Description
  • Support and maintain the directions set out by the classroom teachers and school administration. 
  • Be responsible and aware of the safety of the children at all times.
  • Relate problems of behaviour to the lead teacher and seek guidance regarding discipline.
  • Report and document all incidents of injury of any child while in your care.
  • Keep toileting areas, hallways and classroom areas free from debris or hazardous materials.
  • Supervise children in the playground and ensure their safety. 
  • Convey information to other teachers in your class concerning the special needs of particular children to provide for better adult-child relations.
  • Be available for training sessions.
  • Assist with arrival procedures of children

Start Date: September 2023

RECE Starting Wage: $27.73 per hour plus 4% Vacation Pay. Includes Provincial Wage Enhancement Grants based on the terms and conditions outlined by the Ministry of Education.

Non-RECE Starting Wage: $23.51 per hour plus 4% Vacation Pay. Includes Provincial Wage Enhancement Grants based on the terms and conditions outlined by the Ministry of Education.
Responsibilities:
​
To plan and implement age-appropriate programs to enhance the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional develop of children according to Jacob Hespeler Child Care Centre’s Mission, Vision, Philosophy and Program Statements, the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, How Does Learning Happen?, and Public Health Guidelines.
To adhere to all JHCCC policies and procedures as set by the Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
  • ECE Diploma, Degree or equivalent as approved by the Ministry of Education (or working toward your ECE qualification)
  • ​Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators (not required if currently enrolled in ECE Diploma course)
  • Valid Standard First Aid & Infant and Child CPR level C certificate
  • An original Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within 6 months prior to being hired
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination (2 dose minimum)
  • Certificates of completion of WHMIS and Health and Safety Training
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with families, colleagues, school board personnel, and the community
  • Be organized and pay attention to detail with the ability to set priorities and complete assigned duties with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, dedication, and dependability
  • Knowledge of the pedagogical documentation cycle and implementing emergent curriculum
  • Ability to use professional judgement daily within guidelines established by the College of Early Childhood Educators, Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, the Region of Waterloo and program policies

Hours & Compensation
Multiple positions are available from Monday to Friday between 7:00 am to 9:00 am and between 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm to cover shifts in our Before & After School program. Specific shifts and schedules will be discussed during the interview process.
Pay Rage for all Positions: $22.599 per hour +2% in lieu of benefits +eligible employees may receive a Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant (PWEG) of up to $2/hour for in-ratio hours based on the terms and conditions outlined by the Ministry of Education

  • Understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act and familiarity with the use of assessment tools such as ECERS, ITERS, SACERS, High Five
  • Enthusiasm, initiative, and a working knowledge of child development · Proven ability to work as an effective team member
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills​

​About Us:
At Montessori Academy Learning Centre of Cambridge (MALCC), we believe the children learn best by exploring the prepared environment and following their interests. We apply the Montessori principles at our centre to help children develop essential skills. We operate as a family supporting other families and maintain a friendly environment at the centre.
Your Role:
  • Provide children with knowledge via presentations and lessons in each area including Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Culture and Cognitive
  • Guide, role-model positive behaviours, observe and assess each child, and implement an appropriate curriculum plan to address the growing needs of each child from infant to preschool programs
  • Conduct positive reflective practices, keep a growth mindset, and relate to constructive feedback to better serve the learning goals for the children
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and coworkers
  • Ability to delegate tasks to your team & provide training when needed. A Teacher Assistant is available for support in daily responsibilities 
 
Skills & Responsibilities:
  • Observe, guide, supervise, and assess children while they learn in a classroom environment
  • Develop lesson plans and independent learning exercises while supporting individual needs of the children
  • Exhibit active listening skills and ability to remain calm under stressful situations
  • Apply Montessori and play-based teaching principles
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Responsible for maintaining performance standards, following policies and procedures, and observing regulations and guidelines, from infant to preschool age group in compliance with Ministry and program’s standards. i.e. CCEYA
  • Participate in team meetings, center activities, and staff development during work hours
  • Conduct parent/teacher interviews
  • Establish a positive relationship with the families of children, share information about the child’s day, publish newsletter, and prepare progress reports
  • Responsible for classroom cleanliness and organization
  • Responsible for diaper changing and/or assisting with toileting
  • Participate in outdoor activities with children for 2 hours per day as long as weather conditions allow
 
Qualifications:
  • Montessori trained (AMI/MACTE) and/or RECE in good standing with College of ECE
  • Student ECE’s in apprenticeship programs highly encouraged to apply
  • Vulnerable sector police check
  • Up-to-date immunizations record
  • First aid and CPR-C
  • Experience working with children ages 6 months to 6 years
  • Experience in a Montessori Classroom is an asset
  • Passionate about teaching young children!
