Supply Designated Early Childhood Educators (Graduating ECE Students are Eligible to Apply)

The Waterloo Region District School Board is currently seeking applications for ‘Supply Designated Early Childhood Educators’.

Applications will only be accepted from applicants currently registered with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators and current Early Childhood Education students scheduled to graduate prior to August 2024. NOTE that conditional offers will be made to successful applicants until such time as registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators in Good Standing is confirmed. Prior to registration, successful candidates may be deployed on an emergency basis.

The Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) will partner with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full-day early learning kindergarten program within a classroom setting. The DECE will also provide supervision and age-appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the extended day program as required. The DECE will report to the Principal of the school.

Successful candidates for the supply positions will be working on an “on-call” basis from September to June. 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hold a two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma preferably with experience in a childcare of educational setting (or in the final year of the program)
  • Provide proof of registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (or in process)
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED
​Applications and supporting documentation stating qualifications and experience, including a copy of your Certificate of Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (if applicable) and proof of Sta First Aid with CPR Level C/AED must be included in your portfolio.

NOTES:
The Successful Candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check including Vulnerable Sector, which must be received in Human Resources prior to the commencement of employment. Please note, the Board does not assume any costs associated with the Criminal Reference Check.

Social Insurance Number (SIN), date of birth, and proof of educational qualifications will be required at the of an offer of employment.

A condition of employment requires that you pass the Board's physical testing component. Addi information will be provided during the interview.

Job Title: Early Life Educator (RECE)
Position Type: Full-time in-person 35 hours/week, Contract
​Reports to: Executive Director
Wilmot Family Resource Centre (WFRC) is a charitable, multi-service organization with locations in Baden, Wellesley, and New Hamburg, focusing on strong and healthy communities where all individuals are accepted and where there are opportunities to participate and grow. 
Wilmot Family Resource Centre is currently hiring a contract Early Life Educator for 35 hours per week.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
  • Implementing and engaging caregivers and children in in-person and virtual online play based activities and programs that promote early learning and child development 
  • Encourage a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment for children and their families 
  • Establish and maintain collaborative, supportive relationships with children, their families, colleagues, and community stakeholders 
  • Assist families with accessing information and community resources related to child development and early childhood learning 
  • Set-up of program areas that are inviting to play and create a safe and welcoming environment 
  • Travel to locations across Wilmot & Wellesley Townships to provide EarlyON mobile site programs and services
QUALIFICATIONS: ​
To be eligible to apply, candidate must be a registered member of the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators as a RECE (Registered Early Childhood Educator). 
  • 2 years’ experience working in programs with children from birth to age six and their families / caregivers, preferably in a community setting
  • Experience working within a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Demonstrated interest, knowledge, and or experience with current curriculum, play-based learning and early learning pedagogy, specifically the Ministry of Education’s How Does Learning Happen? document 
  • Proficient in the use of computers and various software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Zoom) 
  • Social media knowledge and skills in Facebook (Twitter and Instagram an asset) 
  • Experience and proficiency with parent engagement 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Be able to problem solve, manage time well and prioritize responsibilities
  • Be able to work effectively independently and in a collaborative team environment 
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C required 
  • Clean Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check 
  • Mandatory Covid-19 vaccination policy is in place for all employees
  • Access to vehicle required
DETAILS: Full-time contract for 35 hours/week, $21-$23/hour starting wage, expected start date is in late October.​
