The Waterloo Catholic District School Board with a total student population of 23,000, provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12) across the Waterloo Region.
 
The Board conducts intentional recruitment and selection as it seeks to achieve a state of greater equity for employees and students and to diversify its workforce.

General Description of Duties:
  • Ensuring the rules and regulations of the childcare are followed
  • Delivery of program and snacks
  • Communicating regularly with staff and supervisor
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) or experience working in a childcare setting
  • Standard CPR/First Aid
  • Committed to providing quality inclusive childcare programming
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods; and must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting)
 
Desirable Assets:
  • Good Standing with the College of ECE’s
  • Excellent Communication and teamwork skills
  • Comfortable working in all program areas (e.g. infants, toddlers)
 
Salary Level
  • $21.87 (certified) or $16.78 (uncertified) per hour, plus Vacation Pay
(temporary rates until at least June 30, 2022 – Regular rates:  $19.87 (certified) or $15.50 (uncertified))
 
Hours of Work:
  • Casual on call as needed (St. Louis Adult Learning & Continuing Education Campuses only)
  • Program Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:15 am – 3:30 pm (September to June)
 
NOTE : We hire from the supply list for long term temporary assignments and permanent assignments
(staff may be eligible for benefits with long term assignments)

SUPPLY DESIGNATED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS


The Waterloo Region District School Board is currently seeking applications for ‘Supply Designated Early Childhood Educators’.

Applications will only be accepted from applicants currently registered with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators and current Early Childhood Education students scheduled to graduate prior to August 2023. NOTE that conditional offers will be made to successful applicants until such time as registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators in Good Standing is confirmed. Prior to registration, successful candidates may be deployed on an emergency basis.

The Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) will partner with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning kindergarten program within a classroom setting. The DECE will also provide supervision and age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the extended day program as required. The DECE will report to the Principal of the school.

Successful candidates for the supply positions will be working on an “on call” basis from September to June.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hold a two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma preferably with experience in a childcare of educational setting (or in the final year of the program)
  • Provide proof of registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (or in process)
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED

Applications and supporting documentation stating qualifications and experience, including a copy of your Certificate of Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (if applicable) and proof of Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED must be included in your portfolio.

Date: Immediately

RECE Starting Wage: $23.55 per hour plus 4% Vacation Pay and Wage Enhancement.

Non-RECE Starting Wage: $20.49 per hour plus 4% Vacation Pay and Wage Enhancement.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Supervisor of the Child Care Centre, the successful applicant will be responsible for implementing “How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years (2014)” as the document for the purpose of guiding licensed child care programs under subsection 55 (3) of the CCEYA. Adhere to all JHCCC policies and procedures as set by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications:
  • ECE Diploma or Degree or equivalent as approved by the Ministry of Education, or working towards your ECE
  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators, not required if currently enrolled in ECE Diploma course
  • Valid Standard First Aid & Infant and Child CPR Level C Certificate
  • An original Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within 6 months prior to being hired
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination (2 dose minimum)
  • Certificates of completion of WHMIS and Health and Safety Training
  • Able to communicate with families, colleagues, school board personnel, and the community professionally and effectively
  • Organized and attention to detail with the ability to set priorities and complete assigned duties with minimal supervision
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, dedication, and dependability
  • A passion for life-long learning
  • Knowledge of the pedagogical documentation cycle and implementing emergent curriculum
  • Ability to use professional judgment daily within guidelines established by the College of Early Childhood Educators, Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, The Waterloo Region, and program policies
