Neither Human Resources nor the Principal will necessarily respond to each applicant. As a condition of employment, you are required to submit a Criminal Record (CRC) including the vulnerable sector that is acceptable to the Board. Human Resources must be in receipt of the original CRC before your employment can begin. Please note that the Board does not assume any costs associated with the Criminal Record Check. Term of assignment(s) is subject to change with appropriate notice. Please note: Long term occasional DECEs in an assignment greater than eighty (80) instructional days or four (4) months in duration, are eligible for up to two (2) full unpaid days per school year.

Under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, S.O. 2014, c. 11, Sched. 1 Ontario Regulation 137/15 for staff screening and police record checks;

Employees [DECEs, EAs, CYWs] working in licensed child care programs are required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check issued by a Police Service on or before every fifth anniversary after the date of the most recent vulnerable sector check. In addition, employees are required to complete an annual offence declaration (annually recorded through the WRDSB staff portal). Educators working in Before and After School Programs are required to complete a request for VSC through your local police service [available online] and submit your original electronic copy to [email protected] for review.

Employees are required to have a valid first aid and cpr certificate and or be registered to update their training within the year.

It is the responsibility of interested candidates to ensure that their application, including a resume, cover letter, Ontario College of ECE registration and Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED is submitted through Apply to Education. Please note that no application packages are to be sent to the Board office. All applications will be accessed only through the Apply To Education website.

Recognizing the significant impact that COVID-19 is having on our world and our ways of doing business, the Board recognizes that the recruitment/selection process may need to be modified to ensure individual and community safety. We are all working through what is an unprecedented time for our schools and our communities. To that end, the Board will be engaging in a different method of interviewing candidates for vacancies. This may include but is not limited to a Google Hangout video-conference interview. Hiring Teams will provide further information to candidates upon request for an interview.

The Waterloo Region District School Board is committed to equity in employment. We are committed to fair and equitable hiring practices that allow us to hire qualified staff who reflect the diversity of the community we serve, who will foster the success and well-being of our students and who demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in the classroom.

We actively encourage applications from members of groups with historical and/or current barriers to equity, including, but not limited to:
  • First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, and all other Indigenous peoples;
