Children’s Program Coordinator
Contract: November 27, 2023 (flexible start) – June 27, 2024 
West Village Community Co-operative
West Village Mission: 
Our mandate is to work together to build a stronger sense of community by developing community-based programs, activities and events, which meet the needs of the members of the West Village community. 
Objecive: 
The Program Coordinator contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of safe, developmentally appropriate, fun, and engaging programs for children 4-12 years of age.​
PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To be actively involved in all aspects of program planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation 
  • To ensure programs are developmentally appropriate for the participants involved and to ensure the program is sensitive to the diverse aspects of the neighbourhood 
  • To participate with the Manager in evaluation of programs involving participants and parents/guardians 
  • To maintain open communication with parents, volunteers, and other program staff 
  • To implement a smooth running program while balancing all administrative duties 
  • To prepare a menu for snacks and list of supplies for the programs to be purchased 
  • To complete and maintain attendance records 
  • To work co-operatively with the Manager, paid staff, volunteers, parents, and participants in developing an effective team 
  • To actively participate in personal goal setting and self-evaluation to enhance personal leadership skills 
  • To act as a mentor and supervisor to staff and volunteers assisting them to meet their own learning goals 
  • To take appropriate precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of all children on and off site by properly following all health and safety procedures and completing all appropriate reports 
  • To be knowledgeable about the site and their policies and procedures 
  • To help maintain the cleanliness and control of the site, safe food handling, program equipment, and supplies 
  • To complete all necessary tasks that relate to the operation of the ONE Club after school program, PA Day Camps and other programming
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred:
  • Experience in or knowledge of the West Village Neighbourhood
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Understand the important role the Neighbourhood Group and its programs play in the life of the community
    • Work well independently and in a community setting
    • Relate well to children, youth and their parents/caregivers
    • Create and implement developmentally appropriate activities and structures for children and youth
    • Work effectively and proactively with children between the ages of 4-12 years both individually and in teams
    • Work in partnership while maintaining strong communication with Manager, staff, volunteers, and parents
    • Be patient, caring, confident, and creative
  • Studies and/or certification in- community development, volunteer sector, social services
  • Recreational and Leisure, social programs, and community development background
  • CPR Certification/ First Aid Certification
  • Food Handlers Certification
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and youth 
  • Experience developing and implementing programs 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Hours of Work:
Guaranteed 15 hours per week [Fixed Hours: Monday & Tuesday 2:30pm - 5:30pm, Recreation After School program; Wednesday - Friday 3:00-6:00pm, ONE Club after school program]. There are full days of work on PA Days [8:00am – 4:00 pm] November 24, 2023, January 26, 2024, April 19, 2024, June 7, 2024. There may be opportunities for additional hours of work in the 7:45am – 9:00am Good Morning Club [shared with other staff], and evening family and youth recreation programs. Hours of work will be discussed with applicants and a mutually agreed schedule will be developed.

​The employment contract is for the Fall period and renewable.
Hourly Rate of Pay: $20/hour
Accountability: The Program Coordinator is responsible to the Manager and responsive to the participant children and their parents/guardians. The day to day work and tasks of Program Coordinator is advised by the Manager.
Contract Requirement: Employment is conditional upon the receipt of a Police Vulnerable Sector Reference Check, current First Aid Certification and appropriate professional references​
