YW SCHOOL AGE PROGRAMS
DUTIES:  (would include but not be limited to)
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of a stimulating, developmentally
    appropriate play-based program for children and their families
  • Clean and disinfect toys and high touch surfaces
  • Escort children to their classroom at beginning of day and to their parents at the end of the day
  • To take an active role as part of the Centre’s professional child care team
  • To provide a warm and nurturing environment for children and families
  • To maintain effective communication with staff, parents and coordinator
  • To ensure the health and safety of the children
  • To act as a positive role model for the children
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education would be an asset
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with children in a licensed childcare setting
  • Proven ability to work as an effective team member

Pay rate:  $21.699 per hour, with an additional 2% in lieu of benefits

About Us
We are a young active family of 5, looking for a child-minder to care for a 3 year old boy and a 1 year old girl. The 6 year old will be attending school in person. We are looking for someone to be in the home from 8/9 a.m. to noon, from Monday to Friday while the parents are working from home.

Skills & Experience
  • Presently Registered in an ECE Program
  • CPR certified / first aid training
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with or taking care of infants/toddlers
  • Police check / vulnerable sector check
  • Non-smoker / no recreational drug use / no cannabis use

Duties
  • Teaching and structured learning appropriate for the 3 year old.
  • Engaging in learning through play for the infant.
  • Feeding of the infant at snack/lunch time.
  • Masks will be required while inside the home.

Qualifications:
  • Registered Early Childhood Education Certification or equivalent

Before and After School Age Child Care Assistant

Nature & Scope:
The Assistant is responsible for assisting the Supervisor developing and implementing a before and after school program that meets the developmental needs of children 3.8 - 12 years of age, while adhering to the YMCA policies and procedures and quality standards, as well as the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act. School Age Child Care Assistants are responsible for the supervision of children at all times during program to ensure the health and safety needs of all are met.
 
Since programs may take place in a shared space, incumbents must have excellent interpersonal skills in order to maintain and foster strong and positive relationships with school personnel, parents and other educators to promote the delivery of high quality child care services within the community.
 
Responsibilities:
  • This position requires the ability and flexibility to work a split shift (before and after school hours);
  • Program areas are based on shared space within the school, therefore, requiring movement/set up of equipment on a daily/weekly/ monthly basis
  • Must be familiar with the developmental needs of children ranging from ages 3.8 to 12 years
  • Assist in the planning, organizing, and leading activities for children 3.8 to 12 years of age to meet the developmental needs of children. Program numbers range from 10 to 90 children in attendance
  • Ensure the health and safety of the children is maintained at all times; Must have knowledge of potential hazards and the ability to put a preventative plan in place;
  • Utilizes appropriate behaviour guidance techniques in all interaction with the children;
  • Required to assume leadership in the absence of the supervisor;
  • Participates in Association wide events i.e. YMCA Strong Kids, Trainings, etc.
  • Required to attend monthly meetings and professional learning sessions

​Qualifications:
  • Completion of High School education or equivalent
  • A minimum of one year work/volunteer experience with children/youth
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certification (Level C)
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Working Computer knowledge

  • To plan and provide a Child and Parent program that supports the development of adaptive problem solving and decision making skills, positive self-esteem, independence and trust
  • To ensure a safe environment for the children while in the care of the Creative Play Worker
  • To provide or arrange for first aid in case of emergency
  • To work in a single staffed capacity
  • To establish and maintain rapport with parents and respond to their inquiries, suggestions, and concerns
  • To respect the confidentiality of children and their families
  • To follow all policies and procedures of the YW
  • To maintain relevant records.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education would be an asset
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification
  • Standard Food Safety Handler’s Certificate
  • Knowledge of child development, and experience of working with high-needs women and children
  • Knowledge of mental and physical health issues and developmentally appropriate practices
