What you will bring to this role:
  • The completion of an Early Childhood Education diploma program and be registered with College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • If you don’t have the above, then another credential for us to consider, such as: Recreation & Leisure, Child & Youth Worker, Ontario College of Teachers, or Social Services Worker.
  • Experience working with children 6-12 years of age in a child-centred curriculum setting.
  • A commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment, responding with sensitivity and awareness to diverse needs.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills, the ability to use good judgement and problem-solve, and strong professional conduct.
  • An up-to-date Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification, successful completion of Vulnerable Police Records Check within the last six months, and up-to-date immunizations including a TB test.

Morningside Montessori School is seeking an enthusiastic, caring, professional candidate to work within our Toddler Community. This successful candidate will work with the children, families and teachers of Morningside to support their path to reach their goals and full potential. We are seeking to fill this position immediately.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to

• Plans, implements and supports a consistent child-centred program in accordance to the Montessori philosophy.
• Completes required documentation and observations of children’s development and interactions. Attends required training and all other relevant professional development opportunities necessary for the position. Maintains qualifications and certifications as required.
• Supporting the children as needed throughout the classroom work periods, outdoor times, transitions, lunch, diapering/toileting, arrival and dismissal.
• Having open, professional, positive communication between co-workers and caregivers.
• Ability to implement and follow the Montessori Philosophy.
• Redirect, guide and support children towards independence in a loving professional environment.
• Work together as a collaborative member of the teaching team.
• Be an active, positive participant and attend in school functions, conferences, family events, staff meetings as needed.
• Provide safe and nurturing supervision and daily programming of toddler and preschool children.
• Prepare activities/crafts for both toddler and preschool aged children maintaining, cleaning and exchanging activities as needed in the aftercare and before care programs.
• Guide, model and support a calm positive environment for the children.
• Engage actively with the children to support enriched learning experiences.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, experience and attributes:

• Applicants must hold a MACTE/AMI accredited Diploma in Toddler Montessori Education and have several years of experience teaching in a Montessori environment.
• Candidates must be caring, self-motivated, patient, enthusiastic, and organized, and must have the ability to work within our school community.
• Applicants must hold an Early Childhood Education Diploma.
• Must be registered and a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working with young children in a childcare and or a Montessori setting
• Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and families
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrate passion with the children.
• Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, ability to work split shifts, early morning and mid-late afternoons, and at times weekends or early evenings for afterschool events or meetings etc.
• A capacity to work within a team and participate actively in supporting the school, children, families and co workers
• Have strong organizational and problem- solving skills
• A current Vulnerable Sector Check
• Current First Aid, CPR, and AED
• Professional, reliable, flexible individual that supports a team environment.

Nature & Scope:
The Assistant is responsible for assisting the Supervisor developing and implementing a before and after school program that meets the developmental needs of children 3.8 - 12 years of age, while adhering to the YMCA policies and procedures and quality standards, as well as the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act. School Age Child Care Assistants are responsible for the supervision of children at all times during program to ensure the health and safety needs of all are met.
 
Since programs may take place in a shared space, incumbents must have excellent interpersonal skills in order to maintain and foster strong and positive relationships with school personnel, parents and other educators to promote the delivery of high quality child care services within the community.
 
Responsibilities:
  • This position requires the ability and flexibility to work a split shift (before and after school hours);
  • Program areas are based on shared space within the school, therefore, requiring movement/set up of equipment on a daily/weekly/ monthly basis
  • Must be familiar with the developmental needs of children ranging from ages 3.8 to 12 years
  • Assist in the planning, organizing, and leading activities for children 3.8 to 12 years of age to meet the developmental needs of children. Program numbers range from 10 to 90 children in attendance
  • Ensure the health and safety of the children is maintained at all times; Must have knowledge of potential hazards and the ability to put a preventative plan in place;
  • Utilizes appropriate behaviour guidance techniques in all interaction with the children;
  • Required to assume leadership in the absence of the supervisor;
  • Participates in Association wide events i.e. YMCA Strong Kids, Trainings, etc.
  • Required to attend monthly meetings and professional learning sessions

​Qualifications:
  • Completion of High School education or equivalent
  • A minimum of one year work/volunteer experience with children/youth
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certification (Level C)
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Working Computer knowledge

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plan/Behaviour Support Plan under the direction of the Classroom teacher and Special Education teacher.
  • To assist students with hygiene and personal care such as toileting, feeding, dressing and mobility devices.
  • To assist students who are experiencing behavioural difficulties.
  • To assist students who may be physically and verbally aggressive.
  • To assist with mobility and transferring from various positions (this may require lifting).
  • To assist operation of specialized equipment.
  • To assist in occupational and physiotherapy strategies as directed by school personnel in consultation with School Health Services.
  • To assist with the supervision of in-school and out-of-school activities for students with challenging needs.
  • To assist students with challenging needs in meeting/boarding the bus/taxi.
  • To assist with data gathering under the direction of the Classroom teacher and Special Education teacher.
  • Regular consultation/meeting with In-school team members.
 
Job Requirements for the supply list:
  • Minimum an Educational Assistant/Support Diploma; or
  • A college diploma/certificate in the following areas will be accepted: Developmental Services Worker/Social Services Worker Diplomas; or
  • Early Childhood Education college diploma with a Resource Teacher certificate or Personal Support Worker certificate*, along with related work experience with children with special needs.
  • The WCDSB will provide BMS (Behaviour Management System) training.  If candidates have this training, it is considered an asset.
 
*Note: The Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate is recognized for the Educational Assistant (High Needs) Supply List, but not for permanent Educational Assistant (High Need) positions. The WCDSB has a job classification of PSW that applicants with this qualification may wish to apply to be eligible for a permanent position.
 
Hourly Rate:  $24.29 - $25.71 per hour (Level 4)
