Length: Temporary Full-time (for approximately 15 months)
Salary/Wage: $72,436.00 – $90,545.00 per annum/$39.80 – $49.75 per hour
Location: Edith MacIntosh Children’s Centre, 104 Stirling Ave S, Kitchener

Description of Duties:
Operates a high quality, inclusive child care centre for children up to four years of age, in a manner that provides for their optimum growth and development, within the legislation of the Day Nurseries Act, Child and Family Services Act, and Regional policy.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Thorough practical knowledge of the developmental and educational needs of children, diagnostic screening tools, community resources, and research methods, acquired through the attainment of a Bachelor level degree specializing in Early Childhood Education or proven equivalent education. A minimum of 3 years of child care experience is required in accordance with the Day Nurseries Act. College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario membership in current standing is required. Must obtain and maintain Certified HighScope Trainer accreditation through the HighScope Educational Research Foundation, and ensure centre participation in quality benchmarking programs such as Raising the Bar community peer accreditation program in Waterloo Region.

Knowledge of Regional policies and procedures, municipal by-laws and applicable legislation (e.g., Ministry of Education, College of Early Childhood Education, Day Nurseries Act, Child & Family Services Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Privacy legislation and other related legislation).

Computer skills using software such as Microsoft Office, child and program assessment (HighScope COR) and enrollment systems (OneList), child care management system (OCCMS), volunteer tracking system (Volgistics), time and attendance system (TAMS) and document management system (DOCS).

Must possess a valid standard First Aid and CPR Certificate; must provide proof of negative TB skin test and current immunizations.

Ability to organize work and its performance by others. Ability to instruct or train staff in specific work methods, systems and procedures.

Ability to assess the needs of children with special needs and their families, and to establish supportive relationships with families living under stressful conditions.

Communication and human relations skills in order to advise and supervise staff, provide confidential support to parents, and participate as an effective team member.

Must provide an acceptable Police Records Check in order to ensure suitability for working with vulnerable populations.

Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.

Reads policies, procedures, legislation, and professional publications relating to child development, assessment tools, training materials, statistics, letters, forms, memorandums, assessments, and referrals to maintain current knowledge in the field.

Composes reports, letters, memorandums, procedures, meeting minutes to outside agencies and staff; maintains and updates various records (e.g., attendance records, employee and program participant information).

Responds to inquiries from parents and members of the public regarding program information and conflict resolution. Convenes and coordinates case conferences for children with special needs or supervises staff participation in same. Ability to prepare and present workshops to stakeholders (e.g., parents, staff, students, community partners).

COORDINATOR, CARE FOR NEWCOMER CHILDREN

YWCA Kitchener-Waterloo invites applications for the temporary, full-time position of:
Coordinator, Care for Newcomer Children
(non-union position)
(6 month contract, possible extension up to 12 months)

The Coordinator is responsible for the administration and operation of the YWCA Care for Newcomer Children Program, providing care to children of newcomers to Canada while language instruction classes are in session.  This program is operated in accordance with the mandate, beliefs and values of YWCA Kitchener-Waterloo and Citizenship and Immigration Canada Care for Newcomer Children Requirements, (April 2013).

Qualifications:
· Registered Early Childhood Educator
· A minimum of 3 years work experience in childcare (preferably providing Care for Newcomer Children), one of which should include management experience
·Demonstrated skill in planning a program that respects diverse values, customs and traditions
· Experience in training and supervision of staff, budgeting, expenditure control, record keeping, effective communication, and problem-solving skills
 
Hourly rate:  $23.23 to $27.32
Hours:                30 hours per week
Program closure during Christmas break, March break, July and August
