Reporting to the Executive Director of Jacob Hespeler Child Care and the Jacob Hespeler Child Care Centre Board of Directors. The Supervisor ensures that the development and management of the procedures and policy decisions of the Board of Directors are carried out and maintained at the Centre level. They will exhibit professional attitudes and behaviors.  They will act as the representative of JHCCC in their interactions with staff, parents, and children.  They will ensure a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment that shows sensitivity to the individual needs of the children in all aspects of their development, as well as the needs of the staff and parents.  They will ensure the financial viability of the program/agency. The successful applicant will provide pedagogical support and leadership to the Jacob Hespeler Child Care Center programs by supporting our staff’s professional practice and their professional judgments that are central to their role in facilitating children’s learning. To actively support staff as they uphold the Jacob Hespeler Child Care Centres mission and philosophy.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Ensuring that the program meets all legal requirements.
  • Ensure that operational policies established by the Board of Directors         
  • are implemented.
  • Ensure that the curriculum meets policies established by the Board of
  • Directors.
  • Ensure on-going supervision of staff.
  • Ensure accurate financial information is available to the Executive Director
  • Promote the program in the community
  • Hire Staff for program
  • Maintain a working and balanced budget
  • Hold staff meetings and parent information events and conduct staff evaluations.
  • Fill staff positions with supply when they are off from work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • E.C.E. Diploma or Degree or equivalent as approved by the Ministry of Education (as per employee agreement)
  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • Ability to obtain and hold a Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Extensive experience in licensed childcare programs and activities, including knowledge of policies and procedures related to the operation of a childcare centre; child guidance techniques for healthy children as well as children with physical or developmental challenges, child development; standard methods of behavioral observation.
  • Four years related experience in the Child Care Field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, CEYE, Act, the
  • Child and Family Services Act, Human Rights Act, Labour Relations Act, College of ECE’s   Code and Standards, Canada Food Guide, and the ability to meet the specifications of these Acts and any other regulations that apply to this work.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, quickbooks, zoom and other technology
  • Good organizational and time management skills. Ability to set priorities and   complete assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • Certification through the Association of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario
  • *Proof of valid driver’s license, insurance, produce an acceptable driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle. Some driving required.

invites applications for temporary full-time
SHELTER OUTREACH COORDINATOR(Non-union Position)
 
This position has the primary responsibility to coordinate and deliver an alternative sheltering option for all families and single women with either mobility issues or a compromised immune system who are experiencing homelessness. 
 
References to “motel” will mean any alternate shelter location, outside the formal YW Emergency Shelter where we provide shelter services.
 
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Responds to request for services and processes intakes into motels.
  • Completes required paperwork accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Assists with community housing applications, referrals to market rent housing supports and other resources to assist in finding housing quickly.
  • Refers motel clients for intake into a shelter within Waterloo Region for longer term stays and when more complex supports are required. 
  • To provide a motel stay for single women who are experiencing homelessness and assess their immediate and primary needs, and to assist them in securing safe and appropriate housing.
  • To develop personal service plans with women including housing search plans, and to assist in developing, implementing and reviewing personal goals and referral to community supports so that they receive a continuum of care upon transitioning to permanent housing.  
  • To advocate with, and on behalf of, women in the acquisition of financial and other entitlements needed to help them secure housing.
  • Establishes and maintains participant case files.
  • Ensures completion of all documentation and data entry into HIFIS and SPDAT.
  • Adheres to regulations and requirements of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Family and Children’s Services, Correctional Services Canada, the Residential Tenancy Act, other relevant legislation and regulations, and YW Kitchener-Waterloo policies and procedures.
  • Monitors motel stays and taxi usage associated with motel stays, prepares and sends out monthly billings and ensures accurate payment is received.
  • Prepares monthly revenue reports for submission to finance department.
  • Be on rotation for on-call for 84 Frederick St.
  • Performs other duties as required.







QUALIFICATIONS:  
  • Undergraduate degree in social work or equivalent human services education and one to three years’ experience in non-profit, social service and health agencies.
  • Ability to assess the needs of clients and to work directly with women and families who experience a variety of challenges.
  • Conceptual and theoretical knowledge of mental health issues, violence against women, women in conflict with the law, youth and adolescents, crisis and suicide intervention, addictions, life-skills training, counseling techniques and group dynamics.
  • Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and relevant software, including HIFIS.
  • Knowledge of YW Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to think independently, set priorities and resolve problems effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
  • Harm Reduction, Overdose Prevention and De-escalation training.
  • PPE and COVID Protocol Training.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Starting Rate:    $26.55 per hour
Weekly Hours:   37.5 hours per week

We are currently looking for a Centre Director to join our team. If you’ve run a centre before (with 2 years of expertise running that centre) and have a minimum of 4 years of experience in the licenced childcare setting, we want to hear from you!

Education & Experience
  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education from a recognized Ontario Post-Secondary Institution or AECEO Equivalency
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience working in the childcare industry
  • Minimum 2 years related supervisory experience with knowledge and experience of operating a childcare centre
Professional Certification and/or Designations and Requirements
  • Registered member of the College of ECE in good standing.
  • Valid CPR Level C and Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Criminal reference check – Vulnerable sector screening must be completed within 1 month of employment
  • Medical certificate required as per CCEYA regulations
Leadership: 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Is a resource & provides training to centre team & can be counted on by staff members.
  • Has foresight to proactively identify & resolve problems about the business at the centre level to ensure that business is driving forward.
  • Organizes schedules/budgets in an efficient/productive manner & anticipates and plans for contingencies.
  • Pays attention to detail and presentation of work
  • Maintains and builds strong stakeholder relationships including but not limited to
  • Uses one to one coaching to set clear, fair goals for self and others.
  • Communicates freely and in a collaborative nature with centre owner.
Staffing and Human Resources: 
  • Manages employees to ensure centre and divisional targets and regulatory requirements are being worked towards and met (enrollment, health, licensing, fire, etc)
  • Actively and successfully trains and coaches staff to aid in problem solving and offers/provides the needed tools/resources for the success of the team
  • Fosters a cohesive and positive team environment at a centre level & establishes collaborative relationships with peers.
