Position Profile
The successful candidate loves working with children and has a desire to make camp a safe, happy and healthy space for youth between the ages of 9-12 years of age. Camp URU counsellors are co-responsible for leading a group of 8-12 campers on a daily basis by role modeling participation in camp activities, ensuring safety, managing behaviours, and being a mentor. Camp URU focuses on leadership, engagement, healthy relationships, conflict resolution, self-esteem, physical and mental wellness, and healthy life choices. Camp URU counsellors are living examples of the content we share with our campers.
Key Responsibilities
● Model good-sportsmanship through interactive, non-competitive participation of camp activities
● Create a positive rapport with all campers and parents/guardians
● Become aware of all campers’ physical, dietary/medical needs
● Provide direct supervision to all campers to ensure safety
● Lead groups from one activity to the next in an orderly manner
● Complete administrative duties
● Other duties as assigned by Camp Coordinator
● Ability to take initiative
● Work in a team environment
Qualifications
● Currently enrolled in a social service program in a college or university
● Previous experience working with children in a camp or educational setting
● Strong communication, organization, leadership and problem-solving skills
● Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team environment
● First Aid and CPR
● Valid driver’s license is an asset
Terms of Employment
● 35 hours/week Full Time Contract position for 8 weeks during the summer
● $15.00/hour
● Reports directly to Camp Coordinator
● This position is available due to funds from Canada Summer Jobs
