Laurier’s Faculty of Education’s LEAP (Laurier Enriched Academic Program) Winter 2018 Enrichment Camps

11/8/2017

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with Laurier’s Faculty of Education’s LEAP (Laurier Enriched Academic Program) Winter 2018 Enrichment Camps! This is a wonderful opportunity to gain experience working with children in a fun and educational atmosphere. All camps are held on the Waterloo campus.
LEAP camps are geared towards gifted/ highly able students who are in Grades 1-9. Camps are designed and led by certified teachers with the assistance of our volunteers. Our programming offers fun, challenging activities in an engaging environment. This winter’s topics include coding, 3D printing, STEM, space and LEGO Mindstorms!
We have been fortunate to have great volunteers for past camps including certified teachers, university students/alumni and high school students. We understand that our volunteers are busy and may not be able to commit to all six Saturdays, and we are always glad to work around your schedules. For Laurier students, these hours can also be added to your Co-Curricular record.
DATES: Saturdays, January 27 – March 3, 2018
VOLUNTEER TIME: 8:30 am – 12:15 pm
Applications are due by January 8, 2018; however, for the winter camp we often find we have more applicants than volunteer spaces so you are encouraged to apply early. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. The application form, camp descriptions and a camp registration package are posted under the “Get Involved” section on our website, www.wlu.ca/leap. The direct link to the application form is: https://www.wlu.ca/academics/faculties/faculty-of-education/assets/forms/leap-volunteer-application-form.html .

If you do not have a current (dated March 3, 2017 or later) Police Check for the Vulnerable Sector, LEAP will cover the $10 cost for you. If you have experience working with children with high ability and/or behaviour challenges (ADHD, ASD, etc.) you are encouraged to apply.
Please feel free to pass this e-mail along to anyone whom you think might be interested.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,
Andrea Swinson
