Youth Mental Health Coordinator for YWCA

YWCA Kitchener-Waterloo invites applications for the temporary, full-time position of:  YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH COORDINATOR (Non-union Position)

The Youth Mental Health Coordinator will provide intensive support services in the Emergency and Transitional shelters and post-discharge to female youth age 16-18 years experiencing significant mental health issues, addictions or trauma to promote optimal mental health and well-being by providing a flexible continuum of services responding to their multiple and changing needs.

Responsibilities:
·Assess needs and develop personal service plans with at risk youth that are strength based, culturally responsive, individually centered, respecting their needs and preferences
·Assist in the development, implementation and review of personal goals with an emphasis on empowerment, problem resolution and improving copy strategies that promote optimal mental health and well-being
·Provide support in the areas of life skills including housing and employment search plans, and education plans through individual counselling and facilitating appropriate support groups and referrals
· Work with families/community partners to ensure a coordinated approach to services and treatment

 Qualifications:
·Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in Social Services or equivalent human services education and a minimum of three years’ work experience with youth in a mental health/addictions setting preferred
·Conceptual and theoretical knowledge of strength based mental health approaches, addictions, trauma, violence against women, women in conflict with the law, youth and adolescents, crisis and suicide intervention
·Proven skills in case management, support, counseling, conflict resolution, crisis intervention and suicide prevention and de-escalation skills
·Ability to work independently, critical problem solving skills, flexibility and creativity
·Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·Computer skills in Microsoft Office
·First aid and CPR Level C Certification
·Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and reliable transportation

Salary Range: $36,232.24 - $42,626.16
Hours: 30 hours per week (flexible schedule including evenings and weekends)
