Parents for Better Beginnings Program Coordinator

We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and east downtown area of Toronto. We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including: primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, health promotion, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, housing assistance, harm reduction and homeless programs, Pathways to Education for high school students, infant and child development programs, parenting education and family advocacy.  We currently have the following opening on our Parents For Better Beginnings team:
 
Parents for Better Beginnings Program Coordinator

Contract to September 2017 (Secondments welcome)
Full Time 35 hrs per week
Salary range: $54,709 – $65,914 per annum plus benefits
 
Position Summary:
The Coordinator – Early Childhood Education & Family Home Visiting Programs is responsible for the planning, implementation and supervision of staff in the delivery of high quality programs within the Parents for Better Beginnings model of primary prevention and early intervention. The goal of these programs is to promote the healthy development of at-risk children within a family and community context using a community development framework. The program Coordinator is responsible for the day to day implementation of programs in accordance with relevant legislation, agency policy and health and safety standards.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate programming to meet the needs of the children/families ensuring agency policy, legislation and health and safety standards are met.
  • Provide supervision, support, feedback and direction to PFBB Early Childhood Educators (ECE’s), Family Home Visitors, students and volunteers.
  • Ensure all program activities and resources are age appropriate, developmentally enriching and reflect the diversity of the community we serve.
  • Lead program planning and oversee delivery of program, ensuring tasks are assigned and implemented by team members.
  • Ensure referrals to other providers when appropriate or internal resources are not available.
  • Ensure programs are promoted and publicized with the community.
  • Ensures confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ensure staff keepprogram statistics for all programs and prepare reports as required.
  • Assist in the development of program budgets and track program expenditures.
  • Ensure program reports and documents required by the funder are completed and delivered on time.
  • Represent and/ or delegate representation and act as liaison for the team with internal and external partners, service providers and community.
  • Coordinate the development of annual program planning and evaluation activities to meet desired outcomes.
  • Coordinate ongoing assessment of family needs related to PFBB programs and services.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and develop recommendations
  • Accessible to families and community members to discuss needs, concerns or issues relative to programs or children’s development.

Qualifications:
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma or Equivalent Degree from related disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of the formal and informal standards of Infant Mental Health and high quality learning environment for young children.
  • Minimum three years supervisory experience in early child hood education/health care/social services settings
  • A thorough understanding of the Child and Family Services Act and Child Care and Early Years Act.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Demonstrated leadership and delegation experience.
  • Creative, strategic and analytical thinker with ability to manage multiple projects/programs
  • Demonstrated organizational skills:  planning, implementation, record keeping, data gathering, and chairing meetings.
  • Strong interpersonal and both oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Regent Park community, diversity and issues.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to change
  • Ability to prioritize work and complete multiple tasks effectively as requested.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
  • Ability to work effectively with people of various cultural, age and economic backgrounds
  • Commitment to anti-discrimination and anti-oppression, principles, practices and service delivery
  • Knowledge of the Regent Park area and issues affecting families living within the Regent and Moss Park communities
