Head Preschool Teacher

Overview of the position:
Are you delighted by the interests, capabilities and energy young children possess?  Do you have the ability to provoke thought and inspire discovery with preschoolers?  We invite you to consider joining our team of collaborative educators who support children’s learning through observation, experimentation and reflection.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:
The Early Childhood Education Centre (ECEC), a preschool and research facility within the Psychology Department of the University of Waterloo, is seeking applicants for a full time Head Preschool Teacher position. A University degree in Early Childhood Education or in a relevant area such as Psychology or Child Studies is required. Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario. Candidates must be a holder of a valid First Aid and
Infant/Child CPR certificate. Experience and demonstrated skill in carrying out a developmentally appropriate program for children 2.5 – 5 years in a team teaching format is required. Program knowledge and experience in planned components, emergent curriculum, project approach, reflective practice and documentation of learning is expected. Must be able to communicate effectively with various groups, have excellent time management and interpersonal skills and be committed to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. The ability to guide and support students who are learning to work with young children is essential. Head
Teachers need to be proficient with personal computers and digital cameras. Successful candidate must provide a current, satisfactory police reference check
for working with a vulnerable population as well as a completed Health Form with
all immunizations up to date and a current TB skin test. This position is 35 hours a week, 11 months of the year and is contingent upon funding.
