TRANSITIONAL SUPPORT WORKER
The Transitional Support Program is a drop-in overnight shelter, for men, women and trans individuals. The seven month project is intended to provide supports that will help to transition persons who currently have no housing options into permanent housing or as an interim step into emergency shelter.
·Provide a safe, welcoming over-night space and establish positive relationships with participants
·Provide person-centered, trauma informed, and harm reduction supports and referrals that will assist participants in moving towards housing stability
·Provide immediate support to participants in conflict following an established conflict resolution program and respond to requests for support and crisis intervention
·Knowledge of the impact of trauma and abuse and the impact of poverty and homelessness on individuals of all ages, normally obtained through the completion of a 2-year college program in Social Services and 2 years relevant work experience
·Understanding of mental health and addiction issues
·Knowledge in harm reduction philosophies and techniques, as well as crisis and suicide intervention skills
·Experience de-escalating and diffusing conflicts using non violent conflict resolution techniques
·Ability to think independently, set priorities and resolve problems effectively and efficiently.
·Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
WAGE: $19.5582 per hour, with an additional 2% in lieu of benefits
HOURS: Casual (hours based on need, evenings and overnights, 7 days per week) until May 31, 2015.
