Temporary Part-Time Awake Overnight Position of
 
QUALIFICATIONS
A feminist understanding of women abuse and the dynamics of homelessness usually obtained through a combination of a degree and/or diploma in the social sciences, and relevant work experience.  Preference will be given to those familiar with the welfare system and those who have experience in a shelter setting. Crisis, suicide intervention, and an ability to successfully resolve conflict are required skills.  Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C are required.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of a multi-disciplinary staff team, you will offer ongoing support to meet the housing, financial, and life support needs of women in residence; answer telephone inquiries regarding emergency housing; complete intakes and intake related tasks; and resolve conflicts between residents.  Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
 
Provide assistance to clients to support their transition, independent living and maintain their housing.  Such assistance will include but is not limited to problem solving as outlined in the specific client action plan, providing access to services.
 
Establish positive relationships with the clients by engaging in discussions with clients. Encourage clients to participate in actions/behaviours that support their independent living and promote well-being in both life skill and recreational development (demonstrate or model to clients; unit maintenance/cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking, budgeting and engaging in activities etc.)
 
Answer telephone and take messages.  Ensure all incoming information is recorded and passed on to the appropriate individuals, including the tenants.
 
Provide immediate support to tenants in conflict by using the conflict resolution program to ensure continued safety and security of the tenants involved in the conflict, other tenants, the staff and the building.

RATE:     $22.078 per hour
HOURS:  49 hours bi-weekly
SHIFT:     1:30 am to 8:30 am
(Continental schedule. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and STATs)
