Communications Coordinator

Organization: Project READ Literacy Network Waterloo-Wellington
Position: Commincations Coordinator
Wage: $18-$24 per hour ( based on qualifications and experience)


Overview of the position:
Project READ Literacy Network is currently accepting resumes for this contract position. The candidate will serve a four--‐month probationary period. This position reports to the Co--Executive Directors (Executive Network Director and Executive Program Director) for the respective job tasks supervised by each Director. Days in the office may vary week--‐to--week depending on scheduling of meetings and activities. The expectation is that the employee works the required hours in the office unless meetings or activities are off--site. This job provides integral, dynamic coordination and/or support for our programs and services.

Key Responsibilities:  

Outreach, Public Education & Fundraising:
Coordinate and/or Support development & distribution of materials, activities & setting of annual public education targets; attend meetings/events as required including labour adjustment, workplace/workforce literacy initiatives; support coordination of fundraising events as directed

Information & Referral Plan: Coordinate development of regional protocols, coordinate and update program information

Professional Development: Coordination of all aspects of workshop & training events; assess training needs; identify emerging professional issues and gaps; includes creation & distribution of flyers, coordination of registration, fees, location details, food, and ensure all preparation is completed, on--‐site coordination

Literacy Information/Referrals and Assessments: Coordinate service to provide sensitive and accurate referrals to callers wishing information about local upgrading & training programs and other community services, collation of Caller Referrals Reports; coordinate scheduling of assessment appointments for Ontario Works clients, liaise and support Assessor

Literacy Service Planning: Support to the ongoing facilitation of annual planning cycle, preparation of annual LSP reports, liaison to MTCU, invite key stakeholders & guests, inter--agency communication, dissemination of information as needed; communication with provincial (streams & sector) organizations in the field; support OALCF implementation among administrators at LSP Table

Ongoing Support of LBS Agencies: Problem solving activities for issues facing agencies (e.g. IMS); research & dissemination of information; frontline mentoring and support

Special Events & Communications:
Support coordination and preparation for any activities or events as requested including the mailing out info packages, creation of flyers, development and maintenance of contact database; gathering of PRLN 5/7/13 2 of 2 news clippings of literacy--‐related articles; and attendance at major events

Community Development:
Support and/or attendance to represent Project READ and literacy issues and providers at community tables and committees

Online Communications: Maintain & update information on 3 websites (projectread.ca, enhancingpathways.ca, projectreadliteracy.webs.com); update & maintain Facebook site; contribute to Twitter; maintain private email list of
practitioners & distribute relevant information; contribute to PRLN OALCF website; monitor eopg website (MTCU website) for postings

Work in cooperation with all other staff; other duties as assigned work in cooperation with all other staff; other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

Excellent communication skills – interpersonal, written, verbal, and listening

Excellent telephone skills – sensitivity, tact and diplomacy

Experience with and knowledge of local literacy and educational agencies is required.

Highly proficient computer skills are required including internet, email, file sharing, MS Office –

Power Point, Publisher, Word and Excel

Post-secondary education or equivalent professional experience in
communications, social sciences, adult education or voluntary sector management

Ability to work cooperatively on common goals and to take direction

Ability to work independently with a positive attitude

Initiative, confidence, enthusiasm and reliability

Excellent organizational, critical thinking and problem--solving skills

Task and deadline oriented and ability to multi--‐task and set priorities

Previous office, financial and non--‐profit experience is preferred

Previous experience organizing events and working with diverse individual and groups would be an asset

Knowledge of volunteer management is an asset
