YMCA Beyond the Bell

SERVICE AREA:     Community Services

POSITION:             Facilitator, Beyond the Bell

LOCATION:            Kitchener-Waterloo

REPORTS TO:     Director Community Outcomes

HOURS:                 Part Time (evenings & weekends as required)

SALARY:               $15.06

START DATE:     September 2014

FUNCTION: To develop and engage youth in a program focused on their individual healthy development in spirit (values, assets),

mind (academics and literacy), and body (recreation and nutrition), with community supports to sustain children in school and to provide access to information and supports for parents and the immediate neighbourhood.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Develop and execute a diversified program that supports the unique needs of the participants
·         Provide a program that will give participants the opportunity to learn, be successful and grow as individuals, and which will empower  participants in their own learning process
·         Deliver positive child guidance by setting boundaries and expectations that are consistent and developmentally appropriate
·         Communicate participant progress, successes and challenges through regular verbal and written communication
and positive role modeling
·         Set up program areas that result in an environment that is safe, clean, welcoming and stimulating
·         Responsible for maintaining all data collection protocols and assisting with data collection
·         Interact, cooperate and collaborate with community agency staff
·          Maintain relationships with school, neighbours and community agencies
·         Attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required
·         Assume other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Completion of “Child and Youth Worker” Community College Diploma
·         1-2 years of experience required, as the client group has specific challenges requiring some experience to problem solve and 
manage                                                                              
·         Knowledge of Healthy Child Development
·         Strong communication and leadership skills are essential
·         Effective and thoughtful judgment
·         Acceptable Police Check

Initiative: Knows when to do the right thing.

Relationship Building and Collaboration: Builds positive interactions both internally and externally to create enthusiasm and appreciation to achieve work related goals.

Tolerance for Ambiguity: Functions effectively in situations of less than perfect or incomplete information.

In addition to the above competencies the Association Core Competencies are required, Commitment to Organization Vision and Values, Diversity, Integrity, Teamwork
