The School of Community Services requires qualified individuals to work up to 12 hours per week in the capacity of the Field Placement Officer for specific programs. The successful incumbent will support students in their community placements. We are looking for multiple Field Placement Officers to work in the following program areas: Early Learning, Educational Support, and Recreation and Leisure.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Communicate current off-campus site expectations, including professionalism and safety training, to the student(s)
  • Maintain ongoing contact (mail, phone, email) with placement sites ensuring relevant student information is communicated to/from sites
  • Engage students in a weekly reflective seminar that supports growth and development as emerging professionals in their field of study
  • Monitor student engagement with placements; provide guidance and opportunities for feedback
  • Visit placement sites to interact with placement supervisors regarding student progress.
  • Collect student work from placement/site supervisors and organize evaluation results (e.g., site supervisor feedback) for person(s) of record
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Diploma or Degree in a discipline related to one of the program areas (Early Learning, Educational Support, and Recreation and Leisure)
  • Five years of current, practical relevant work experience
  • Must have strong ties to the community
  • Must possess good human relations, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Customer service and stakeholder engagement skills

Temporary part-time position of:
 
TENANT SUPPORT WORKER
84 Frederick Supportive Housing
(Unionized position contingent upon funding)
(November 2019 to April 2020 – Total 26 weeks)
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Tenant Support Worker you will provide assistance, within a harm reduction environment, to nine women in their home to support their independent living and maintain their housing.  Provide immediate support to women in conflict following an established Conflict Resolution Program and respond to requests for support and crisis intervention. Establish positive relationships and participate in the creation of a stable and secure shared living environment.  Plan and facilitate programming for tenants and help them connect to community resources and supports.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma and abuse and the impact of poverty and homelessness on individuals of all ages, normally obtained through the completion of a 2-year college program in Social Services and 2 years work experience in a residential or supportive housing environment. 
  • Knowledge in harm reduction philosophies and techniques, as well as crisis and suicide intervention skills
  • Experience working within the parameters of a Conflict Resolution Program.
  • Understanding of current legislation pertaining to housing, advocacy and tenant/landlord rights, usually obtained through a general knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act.
  • Ability to think independently, set priorities and resolve problems effectively and efficiently.
  • Valid certifications in Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and Overdose prevention training.

RATE OF PAY:            $21.878 per hour, with an additional 2% in lieu of benefits
HOURS:           40 hours per pay period. Continental rotating schedule
  (3:30 pm to 11:00 pm, or 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm) includes working every other weekend.
