GIRLS’ PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WORKSHOP FACILITATOR/TRAINING DEVELOPER
TEMPORARY PART-TIME CONTRACT (October-December 2018)
(non-unionized position)
 
 
This position will be responsible for the development and delivery of 10 two hour training sessions exploring the experience of girls and gender non-conforming youth (middle/high school age) in physical activity programming. The workshop will be geared towards adults delivering facilitated physical activity and recreational programming in the Kitchener-Waterloo community. The workshop will take a gendered lens and be reflective of best practices in areas such as self-esteem, body-image, marketing to girls and gender non-binary youth, and program delivery as it pertains to ensuring the needs of the demographic and experiences of the YW. This position will have access to data, evaluations and feedback from girls and gender non-binary youth that participated in our Fearlessly Girl program earlier this year, which will be weaved into the workshop presentation.
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position will research, gather information; write and develop engaging materials for the workshops (power point, video, graphics, etc.), with the principles of adult learning in mind.
  • Experience in workshop development and training of this kind.
  • Experience in the delivery of physical activities (particularly with a gender lens and with youth)
  • Advocates for positive self-esteem, body image and identity in the work they do.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills
  • Must be creative in developing engaging ways to share important lessons throughout the workshop.
  • Willing to travel within Kitchener-Waterloo to various sites to deliver workshops.
  • Community development, liaison and engagement skills
  • Evaluation and reporting based on feedback obtained through surveys administered to workshop participants.
  • Experience designing, delivering in person workshops
  • 2-3 years in a facilitator role
  • Strong understanding of the needs of girls and gender non-conforming youth as it pertains to self-esteem, body image, physical activity.
  • Excellent verbal, written and technical communication skills
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft office applications, including PowerPoint and Word.
  • Sound judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Engaging presenter,excels in public speaking.
 
Wages: Pay on contract basis - Total: $2000
 
$100 / workshop (total 10 workshops - each workshop is 2 hours in length)
20 hours at $50/hr to develop workshop presentation
 
Timeline:
Workshop presentation developed and 10 workshops completed between October- December 2018.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of a multi-disciplinary staff team, you will provide assistance to tenants living in YW Supportive Housing to support their independent living and maintain their housing.
Provide immediate support to tenants in conflict following an established Conflict Resolution Program and respond to requests for support and crisis intervention.
Establish positive relationships with tenants and participate in the creation of a stable, secure environment.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma and abuse and the impact of poverty and homelessness on individuals of all ages, normally obtained through the completion of a 2-year college program in Social Services and 2 years work experience in a residential or supportive housing environment. 
  • Knowledge in harm reduction philosophies and techniques, as well as crisis and suicide intervention skills
  • Experience working within the parameters of a Conflict Resolution Program.
  • Understanding of current legislation pertaining to housing, advocacy and tenant/landlord rights, usually obtained through a general knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act.
  • Ability to think independently, set priorities and resolve problems effectively and efficiently.
  • Valid certifications in Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and Overdose prevention training.

About AECEO
The AECEO is the professional association for registered early childhood educators (RECEs) in Ontario. The AECEO’s mission is to build and support a strong collective voice for RECEs so they can participate in and influence positive change that benefits children, families, educators and communities. Position: Executive Coordinator, Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario

Position Summary:
The Executive Coordinator leads a small, hard-working team in the fulfillment of the AECEO’s mission through initiatives such as the Professional Pay and Decent Work project, Guiding Committee on Truth and Reconciliation, membership and fund development, professional learning, communications, community outreach and support, facilitating effective partnerships and government relations.

Key competencies:
  • Leadership and project management
  • Critical thinking
  • Writing and public speaking
  • Knowledge of the early childhood education sector a strong asset.
Qualifications:
  • Degree (master’s preferred) in Humanities, Social or Political Science, Early Childhood Education or related field of study, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
General Responsibilities:
  • Lead, coordinate and oversee staff team in the fulfilment of all operational, strategic and project requirements/deliverables
  • Act as the spokesperson in communicating the mission, activities, policy positions and importance of the organization to the broader sector, legislators, community and in the media
  • Monitor, research, evaluate and respond to public policy/sector developments and their impacts on the early childhood (EC) workforce and the broader sector; prepare policy and budgetary submissions and responses in coordination with the board
  • Research availability of ongoing and project funding and develop grant or funding proposals that will support organizational projects and strategic plans
  • Lead the development, implementation and coordination of advocacy campaigns
FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
Skills, knowledge and experience:
  • Excellent facilitation, leadership, project and time management skills
  • Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strong and collaborative relationships with diverse partners and stakeholders
  • Experience lobbying politicians/government on public policy
  • Experience in community development and working in a non-profit organization with a board of directors
  • Knowledge of/work experience in the early childhood education sector
  • Ability and interest in public speaking to a wide range of groups
  • Grant writing experience
  • Ability to work with membership and the public from diverse social, ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various parts of the province (preferred)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Ability to travel within Ontario
This is a full time, salaried, position with occasional evenings and weekends.

Salary: 60,000/year, plus benefits after 3 months
