CASUAL CLEANER (unionized position)

As a casual cleaner you would be responsible for day to day cleaning at multiple locations within YWCA Kitchener-Waterloo.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous cleaning employment experience
  • Conscientious and willing to take initiative
  • Must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions
  • Practice proper operation of equipment to assure safety and avoid damage to equipment
  • Understand and exceed health and safety standards
  • WHMIS training is preferred
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm

WAGE: $17.089 per hour (plus 2% in lieu of benefits)

HOURS: Casual (days, weekends, and statutory holidays)

YOUTH WORKER I (unionized position)

The Youth Worker will develop, plan and facilitate activities for GirlSpace, an after school drop-in program for girls 12-16 years; promote participation; support youth in building helping relationships, fostering self and community advocacy skills, facilitate problem solving and acting as a positive role model  Programming follows a youth-led model and focuses on self-esteem, anti-violence, body-image, advocacy, life skills, leadership, civic engagement, physical activity and other topics relevant to girls attending the program.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in the area of social work, social justice, women’s studies, child and youth worker, recreation or other relevant field of study.
  • Work experience with youth, developing and facilitating youth-led programming. 
  • Awareness of issues and community resources relevant to pre-teen and teenage girls.
  • Creativity and skill in researching relevant activities to provide diversity in programming.
  • Working knowledge of program evaluation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with and liaison with multiple stakeholders, including program participants, parents, community centre staff, guest facilitators, etc.
  • Tolerance of Ambiguity and the ability to be able to change tasks or directions with ease, make back up plans, and explore new ways of delivering programming.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to complete planning and facilitation work independently 
  • Current first aid and C.P.R. certification.


Rate of Pay:        $19.381 per hour, with an additional 2% in lieu of benefits

Hours:       
17 hours per week (In program Mon to Fri 4:00 p.m. -6:00p.m., three locations; 7 hours of program planning time per week. This position follows the school schedule which breaks in December, March Break and summer.

Hiring YWCA Youth Development Workers

Applications are invited for the positions of: YOUTH DEVELOPMENT WORKER I (unionized position)

DUTIES:
  • To implement engaging and developmentally appropriate activities for 8 -12 year olds which allow for choice, creativity, and independence
  • To take responsibility for the health and safety of the children in your care
  • To follow daily schedules and take responsibility for clean up and organization of supplies
  • To act as a positive role model for the children
  • To work as part of a team of Youth Development Workers
  • Maintaining effective communication with staff, parents, facility staff and co-ordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator or related degree such as Recreation and Leisure, Child and Youth Worker (subject to approval by the Ministry of Education)
  • Minimum one year experience with School Age children, preferably in a childcare, education or recreation setting
  • Knowledge of the Day Nurseries Act and familiarity with the use of assessment tools such as ECERS, ITERS, SACERS, High Five
  • Enthusiasm, initiative and a working knowledge of child
    development
  • Proven ability to work as an effective team member
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Current first aid and C.P.R trainiMust have a valid drivers license and own vehicle

Rate of pay:
$19.381 per hour, with an additional 2% in lieu of benefits

four part-time position:
11.25 hours per week (Monday to Friday mornings)

10 hours per week (Monday to Friday mornings)

CASUAL RESIDENTIAL CARE WORKER (unionized position)

QUALIFICATIONS
A feminist understanding of women abuse and the dynamics of homelessness usually obtained through the completion of a degree in the social sciences.  Preference will be given to those familiar with the welfare system and those who have experience in a shelter setting. Crisis, suicide intervention, and an ability to successfully resolve conflict are required skills.  
Valid Standard First Aid and CPR are required. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of a multi disciplinary staff team, you will offer ongoing support to meet the housing, financial, and life support needs of women in residence; answer telephone inquiries regarding emergency housing; completes  intakes and intake related tasks; keep accurate records of medication held for residents; and resolve conflicts between residents. Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.

WAGE: $19.371 per hour
HOURS: Casual (must be available to work a minimum of 4 shifts per month: days, evenings, weekends, and overnights)
