Group Facilitator

Organization: The Literacy group of Waterloo Region
Position: Group Facilitator
Reports to: Executive Director

Overview of the position:
To provide effective literacy and essential skills programs that address the ongoing individual learning plan goals for each learner in the small group programs.

Responsibilities:

Learner  Related:

  • Implements and revises individualized learning plans and goals in collaboration with each learner
  • Facilitates learner orientation sessions
  • Conducts on-going assessments and administer appropriate milestones
  • Refers learners who have attained their goals at TLG to other programs or agencies; develops a transition plan to ensure the learner is successful in their next step
  • Ensures confidentiality for all program participants

Small Group Instruction:
  • Creates a safe, friendly and engaging learning environment that fosters independent and group learning
  • Facilitates small groups in Literacy and Basic Skills and Essential Skills
  • Prepares lesson plans with learning activities and materials related to the learning outcomes and skills required for group and individual goals
  • Assists with the development of program content, including curriculum
  • Liaises with the Program Coordinators to assist with learner placement into appropriate small group
  • Works with tutors who volunteer in small groups
Organizational:
  • Assists with program planning when required
  • Adheres to TLG’s organizational policies and procedures
  • Adheres to TLG’s Business Plan by ensuring that efficiency, effectiveness and customer service standards are being met
  • Participates in agency events throughout the year including events that take place in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge or Rural Waterloo Region
  • Attends training sessions, workshops, conferences and other events as on-going professional development

Administrative:
  • Maintains Access database with learner information as required.
  • Maintains learner files with all required information in accordance with MTCU and TLG guidelines.
  • Files completed milestones in learner files and keeps the EIOS-Cams database updated.
  • Maintains group attendance records, learning plans and files.
  • Completes learner exit assessments with all necessary information for the Administrative Assistants.
  • Sends group attendance to the Administrative Assistant on a monthly basis.
  • Provides monthly updates during staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of two years working or volunteering in the LBS sector
  • Post-secondary or equivalent
  • Experience with small group instruction
  • Ability to build effective relationships with learners, volunteers and staff
  • Ability to work independently and in team environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skill
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of programs including MS Work, Excel and Access
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Working on, or completion of, Teacher of Adults: Literacy Educator program an asset

Program Coordinator- Learners/Tutors (Contract)

Organization: The Literacy Group of Waterloo Region
Position: Program Coordinator
Hours/Weekly: 30 hour per week, part time 

Overview of the position: The Program Coordinator: Learners/Tutors is responsible for intake and assessment of all learners and continuing follow-up for literacy learners in one-to-one tutor matches. 

Responsibilities:

Learner Related:

  • Interviews potential learners to determine suitability for
    LBS Guidelines and programs offered by TLG
  • Provides support, evaluation and follow-up for all
    tutor/student matches
  • Facilitates student orientation sessions as required
  • Liaises with staff ensuring a positive learning environment for all learners
  • Conducts task-based learner assessments
  • Refers learners to other agencies and/or programs as required
  • Conducts on-going assessments and administers appropriate milestones      
  • Refers students who have attained their goals at TLG to other programs or agencies; develops a transition plan to ensure the student is successful in their next step    
  • Ensures confidentiality for all program participants.
  • Develops learner plans within 30 days of learner intake
  • Coordinates tutor/learner matches
  • Conducts initial follow-up meetings at 6 weeks and every 12 weeks thereafter with learner and tutor providing support as required

Tutor Related
  • Assists with recruitment of potential volunteer tutors
  • Participates in volunteer tutor orientation sessions
  • Participates in the planning and facilitation of tutor trainings, as required
  • Provides ongoing support to tutors
  • Participates in training sessions, workshops and recognition events for volunteers
  • Challenges volunteer literacy tutors to develop their skills while serving as a role model and mentor
  • Remains on the forefront of emerging practices in the Literacy field

Organizational:

  • Assists with program planning when required
  • Adheres to TLG’s organizational policies and procedures
  • Adheres to TLG’s Business Plan by ensuring that efficiency, effectiveness and customer service standards are being met
  • Participates in agency events throughout the year including events that take place in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge or Rural Waterloo Region     
  • Attends training sessions, workshops, conferences and other events as on going professional development
  • Assists in preparation of annual Business Plan

Administrative:

Casual Cleaner (Unionized Position)

Organization: YMCA Kitchener-Waterloo
Wage: $16.576 per hour (plus 2% in lieu of benefits)
Hours: Shifts vary based on need

Overview of the Position:
As a casual cleaner you would be responsible for day to day cleaning at multiple locations within YWCA Kitchener-Waterloo.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous cleaning employment experience
  • Conscientious and willing to take initiative
  • Must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions
  • Practice proper operation of equipment to assure safety and avoid damage to equipment
  • Understand and exceed health and safety standards
  • WHMIS training is preferred
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm

Organization: Inspiring Minds Early Learning Centre
Hours/Weekly:
School age position; approximately 20 hours/week (split shift)
Kindergarten position; approximately 21.25 hours/week
Beginning and end of day floater position; approximately 18.75 hours/week (split shift a non-RECE, with experience, will be
considered for this position

Note:
Additional on call supply hours may be available.
Remuneration will be based on experience. 

Major Duties include, but are not limited to:

· Forming positive, personal relationships with children

· Planning and implementing a welcoming, enriching and safe
environment 

·
Providing developmentally appropriate and positive child
guidance

·
Openly communicating with parents/guardians and team
members on a daily basis

· Attending workshops and training for professional
development, based on annual performance review

· Completing all required forms, curriculum sheets, log books,
individual profiles following Centre policies and procedures

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

· RECE or equivalent, with minimum 2 years experience preferred

· Current First Aid Certificate

· Up to date Immunization Record

· Acceptable Police Check

· Knowledge of DNA and current trends
