Professional Learning Consultant

Organization: Affiliated Services for Children and Youth (ASCY)

Hours: 30 hrs per week
Location: Hamilton, Ontario

Overview of the Position:
Affiliated Services for Children and Youth (ASCY) is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, resourceful Early Childhood Educator to join our dynamic Professional Learning Team.The Successful candidate will respond to the current needs and issues in early learning a child care, develop and present training workshops, facilitate outreach and consultation services and offer mentoring/ coaching to early learning supervisors and staff who work and live in the city of Hamilton. The Successful candidate will participate in community consultations, community initiatives, area network support and other duties as assigned.

This position is for 30 hours per week beginning in January 2014. The position will require the ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and Saturdays and in a range of community locations.

Applicants must have/or be:
  • Registered as an Early Childhood Educator with the College of ECE
  • A minimum of 5 years working in early learning settings
  • Experience in adult educations and mentoring
  • Experience and a high level of skill coaching and mentoring leaders, supervisors, Early Childhood Educators and ECE students
  • Supervisory experience in an early learning setting
  • Experience working in a variety of early learning settings and age groups an asset
  • Experience with Infants and toddlers in licenced early learning and care an asset
  • Knowledge of and involvement in the early learning community in Hamilton
  • Knowledge and understanding of the diverse community in Hamilton
  • Knowledge of current issues in early learning and child care (i.e.: locally, provincially and nationally)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of emergent curriculum
  • Knowledge and understanding of ELECT and ECERS-R
  • Strong technology skills
  • Knowledge of and participation in“Raising the Bar” on Quality, Save the Day for Play and other community initiatives
  • Active participant in the ECE and early year’s community
  • Valid Ontario drivers licence and access to a vehicle
  • French language an asset
