The Field Placement & Community Liaison Officer organizes and schedules field placements for Child, Youth and Community Services students, supervises students on field placement and assigns a final grade.  The incumbent acts as a resource to students, faculty and community placement locations, promotes the programs within the external community, and is responsible for the administrative processes associated with field placement.
 
Although many of our employees are currently working remotely, this position is governed by the applicable legislation of the Province of Ontario. Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Student Supervision
 
  • Supervise and observe students in field placement settings in the community
  • Orient, provide direction, support, and problem solve placement situations with Field Placement Associates
  • Act as a liaison between placement sites and faculty/part-time Field Placement Associates, providing support when others are not immediately available
  • Meet with educator and student, offering support and assisting with problem-solving
  • Complete paperwork, mark placement assignments, maintain individual files and provide verbal and written feedback to students
  • Review and interpret mid-term and final evaluation, and assign final grades based on pre-established criteria  
  • Bring exceptions to faculty quorum


Coordinate Field Placements
 
  • Schedule field placements for programs primarily in the School of Community Services, assigning  field placement associates where applicable
  • Maintain tracking records of students’ placements as required for professional designation
  • Develop and monitor placement completion plans for students who have missed placement requirements
  • Coordinate field placement forms, placement site list, keep up with ongoing changes, maintain necessary inventory; liaise with the print shop and bookstore employees
 
Community Partner Liaison
 
  • Act as a liaison within the community promoting work-integrated learning to prospective educators and administrative staff within host organizations
  • Maintain ongoing contact (mail, phone, email) with organizations used for placements, ensuring program updates, etc. and specific student information are communicated to them
  • Under the direction of the Chair, develop and organize community events, including regular educator support workshops
  • Visit new placements possibilities, meet with staff, complete program observation and make decisions on the suitability of the placement
 
Coordinate Student Placement and Pre-placement Requirements
 
  • Develop and make changes to placement assignments, contribute to course outlines and instructional plans as well as maintain eConestoga course shell for placements
  • Conduct seminars with field placement students, track students’ completion of pre-placement requirements and Safety in the Workplace course
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Two-year Diploma/Degree in Early Childhood Education, and registration with CECE
  • Five years of experience in a Human Services field; preference is given to individuals working with College students and/or experience as a team leader/supervisor within an organization
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize multiple demands in order to achieve the overall goals
  • Ability to work independently
  • Creative approach to problem-solving
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and CRM databases with the ability to learn new software for education and training related to placements and safety requirements
  • Experience with Work Integrated Learning (i.e. work/field placements) is considered an asset
  • Ability to travel to and from placement sites on College business
  • Ability to meet site requirements to attend placement sites as required
