YOUTH EDUCATOR
( 2 unionized positions )

Hours & Compensation
For All Positions: Pay Rate: $23.118 per hour + an 2% in lieu of benefits + eligible employees receive a Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant (PWEG) of up to $2/hour for in-ratio hours based on the terms and conditions outlined by the Ministry of Education.  

Position 1: Temporary Part-Time

Shift: 7:00 am to 8:30 am, Monday to Friday
Start Date: Monday February 6, 2023
End Date: June 2023
Location: Jean Steckle, 130 Woodbine Ave, Kitchener
 
Position 2: Permanent Part-Time
Shift: 2:45 pm to 5:30 pm
Start Date: Monday February 6, 2023
Location: Jean Steckle, 130 Woodbine Ave, Kitchener
 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement engaging and developmentally appropriate activities for 4 to 12-year olds
    which allow for choice, creativity, and independence
  • Take responsibility for the health and safety of the children in your care
  • Follow daily schedules and take responsibility for clean-up and organization of supplies
  • Act as a positive role model for the children
  • Work as part of a team of Youth Educators
  • Maintain effective communication with staff, parents, facility staff, and program manager
 
Skills, Qualifications, & Requirements:
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator or related degree such as Recreation and Leisure,
    Child and Youth Worker (subject to approval by the Ministry of Education)
  • Minimum 1-year experience with School Age children, preferably in a childcare, education, or recreation setting
  • Understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act and familiarity with the use of assessment tools such as
    ECERS, ITERS, SACERS, High Five
  • Enthusiasm, initiative, and a working knowledge of child development
  • Proven ability to work as an effective team member
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Up-to-date Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification (required)
  • Vulnerable Sector Record Check document (required)
  • Standard Food Safety Handler’s Certificate (required)
  • Vaccine Verification - As a condition of employment you are required to provide confirmation that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 or have proof of valid exemption satisfactory to the employer. You must acknowledge and agree to comply with any future vaccine policy requirements as an ongoing condition of employment at the YW Kitchener-Waterloo.
