Description: 2 positions, full-time permanent (1-Doon, 1-Driftwood), 1 position, full-time, temporary (Sept 2014-Sept 2015)
Responsibilities:
We require three qualified individuals to work with team members to provide a quality early childhood education program that models the philosophy taught in the Early Childhood Program.
- Plan and adapt the program and environment to meet the needs of individual children as well as the group
- Use quality assessment tools
- Ensure the health and safety of children
- Provide supervision to all play areas and all experiences/routines that occur
- Plan, implement and document experiences that meet the interests and developmental needs of the children
- Observe, document and assess the development of the children
- Interact positively with children and adults
- Uphold the Day Nurseries Act and the Centre’s staff handbook
- Model appropriate curriculum strategies as taught in the ECE Program
- Provide students, or those less familiar with the program, verbal feedback and guidance to ensure the smooth flow of the program and maintain a quality experience for children and their families
- Share information and observations with supervisor
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship with parents
- Participate in the initial intake process
- Meet with parents privately at their request or when necessary to share more detailed information about their child’s progress
- Communicate respectfully while upholding confidentiality
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development activities
- Offer support and assistance to other staff in the child care centre
- Share knowledge and expertise
- Report unusual situations (i.e. accidents, parent requests/concerns, schedule changes, etc.) to supervisor
- Two year diploma in Early Childhood Education
- A member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario
- Working experience in a licensed child care setting, preferably one that has ECE students placed in it
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good time management and organization skills
- Creative and flexible, able to participate in solving problems
- Ability to apply the principles of child development and positive behavior
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid and training in the use of Environmental Assessment Tools are considered assets
