You will respond to parents and caregiver’s questions or concerns about child development through conversations and observations, using validated tools and resources, and linking to specialized services; making connections for families during and beyond the early years.

You are a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), or are actively enrolled in either the Bachelor of Early Learning Program or an Early Childhood Education program. What you will do…
  • To assist in ensuring the centre is offering quality, age and developmentally appropriate care, programs, and services that meet and/or exceed the regulations outlined by the Child Care and Early Years Act (2014); the Municipality; the Public Health Unit; and the policies, procedures and protocols outlined by the YMCA of Three Rivers, Ministry of Education, EarlyON leadership and/or the Region of Waterloo as CMSM.
  • Ensures that all requirements of the EarlyON curriculum as outlined on the PRL and within How Does Learning Happen? and the Kindergarten Program are supported.
  • Provides curriculum champion support to staff, students and volunteers by mentoring and coaching on the facilitation of EarlyON programs and services and tours as requested by the EarlyON Supervisor and in alignment with quality framework expectations.
  • Ensures that the Child Protection Policy is being followed – bring concerns to the prompt attention to the EarlyON Supervisor/Child Protection Lead.
  • Ensures all EarlyON Best Practices are being followed – bringing concerns to the prompt attention to the EarlyON Supervisor and/or other EarlyON Lead.
  • Primary responsibility when a Supervisor/Lead is not onsite for non-emergency incidents/accidents/situations that occur onsite as requested by the EarlyON Lead. Completing follow up with the EarlyON Lead within one business day in writing.
  • Primary responsibility to connect with the Supervisor/On-call Leader by phone call for urgent, emergency, or other instances as outlined in the Emergency Binder, Child Protection, or as part of our Serious Occurrence Protocols as requested by the EarlyON Lead. Escalating to On-Call Leader or Operational Manager as needed.
  • Support supervisor and team in program or environmental planning in alignment with EarlyON pedagogy and principles of family support; modeling open-ended questions, lens of curiosity and a willingness to learn alongside of others as co-learners.
  • Peer-Reviewing written reflections and documentation weekly with the lens to proof-reading, and alignment with expectations as outlined on the PRL and in Core Training; and providing feedback to team members in consultation with EarlyON Lead.
  • Checking to ensure anything posted within the centre is current and aligns with EarlyON expectations.
  • Maintains effective and positive communication within the YMCA of Three Rivers as an organization, and with children, parents and community contacts.
  • Support with administrative tasks such as photocopying, non-confidential filing, printing, laminating, and providing oversight of inventories and purchasing lists.
  • Extended hours leadership support to team in-person or on call and/or extended hours coverage either in rotation with EarlyON Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor or as a regular schedule as requested by EarlyON Supervisor.
  • Provide team with onsite attestation review to approve current visit and to provide KEyON support when Admin/Leader support can not be reached.
  • Support with coverage across EarlyON | Waterloo Region locations depending on need.
  • Models appropriate behaviours to staff in line with our Mission, Vision and Values; establishes rapport and maintains effective relationship-building behaviours with staff, participants and community members. Represents the YMCA of Three Rivers in a professional manner in internal and external forums
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Attends Y events/EarlyON Community events and encourages staff to attend, participate, volunteer, etc.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills; communication skills; and customer service excellence.

Our center is a safe and nurturing space where children can explore, learn, and grow in connection with their community, the land, and the teachings of Indigenous culture. Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about nurturing young minds and hearts, supporting children’s development through exploration, inquiry, and play. In alignment with How Does Learning Happen? our RECEs focus on the four foundations—Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement, and Expression—to ensure that each child feels safe, supported, and valued.
In this role, you will work closely with our Cultural Facilitator and Indigenous Languages Educator to create culturally rich learning experiences that celebrate and incorporate Indigenous knowledge, values, and language. These team members will support both children and educators by guiding the integration of cultural teachings into everyday learning and providing ongoing opportunities for professional learning and personal growth.
As part of our family, together we will contribute to the larger community by nurturing meaningful connections with the children, their families, and the broader community we serve.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Create a Caring Environment: Provide a nurturing and respectful space where children feel loved, supported, and accepted. Foster a sense of Belonging by building trusting relationships with children and their families. Embodying the 7 grandfather teachings in a good way to model for children.
• Support Holistic Development: Plan and implement engaging experiences that support children through the good life cycle from birth to age seven. Promote children’s development through the seven stages of the life cycle of development and traditional milestones. Collaborate with the Pedagogical Lead Consultant to align activities with best practices in early childhood development
• Encourage Self-Expression: Create opportunities for children to express themselves through a variety of media, honouring their voices and perspectives. Utilize culturally relevant storytelling, art, and music to support children’s self-identity and sense of community.
• Collaborate with Cultural Facilitators and Language Educators and other professionals: Work closely with the Cultural Facilitator and Indigenous Language Educator to design and implement learning experiences that honour Indigenous traditions, language, and values. Partner with the Pedagogical Lead Consultant to integrate these cultural elements with inquiry-based and play-centered practices.
• Observe, Document, and Reflect: Use observation and documentation to understand each child’s unique development, interests, and needs. Reflect on these observations to adapt the learning environment and activities to support children’s growth.
• Engage with Families and Community: Communicate openly and positively with families, building partnerships that respect each family’s culture, values, and experiences. Participate in center-wide events, gatherings, and cultural celebrations.
• Dedicated to continuously enhancing program quality: actively engaging and participating in the Early Years Engage Continuous Quality Improvement process through the Region of Waterloo and other initiatives. Work with the Pedagogical Lead Consultant to implement quality improvement strategies and professional development goals.
• Other duties as required: Fulfill additional responsibilities as needed to support the center’s goals and operations.

Education, Qualifications and Skills:
 • Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE).
• Experience working in early childhood settings, with a strong understanding of child development and pedagogy.
• Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and values, or a willingness to learn and engage respectfully.

SUPPLY DESIGNATED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS

The Waterloo Region District School Board is currently seeking applications for ‘Supply Designated Early Childhood Educators’.
Applications will only be accepted from applicants currently registered with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators and current Early Childhood Education students scheduled to graduate prior to August 2025. NOTE that conditional offers will be made to successful applicants until such time as registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators in Good Standing is confirmed. Prior to registration, successful candidates may be deployed on an emergency basis.
The Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) will partner with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning kindergarten program within a classroom setting. The DECE will also provide supervision and age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the extended day program as required. The DECE will report to the Principal of the school.
Successful candidates for the supply positions will be working on an “on call” basis from September to June.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hold a two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma preferably with experience in a childcare of educational setting (or in the final year of the program)
  • Provide proof of registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (or in process)
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED
