We are interested in finding a qualified ECE, EA or a candidate who has experience working with children. The position is Tuesday to Thursday mornings starting on January 4th. The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) collaborates closely with all other members of the program team to provide nurturing play-based early learning to support each child in realizing their potential while giving families peace of mind.
 
Job duties are performed in accordance with Owl’s Program Statement, policies, values and beliefs, the Child Care and Early Years Act and the College of ECEs Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, under the supervision of the Centre Supervisor.

This is a full-time, permanent position. Your total compensation package will include your base salary (paid hourly), reimbursement of professional association (RECE membership), paid sick and personal days and a comprehensive benefits program. Desired Qualifications & Experience: 
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma
  • Registered member of the College of ECEs in good standing
  • Practicum experience in a child care setting gained through post-secondary program or equivalent

Required Knowledge
  • Demonstrated knowledge of domains of childhood development

Nature & Scope:
The School Age Child Care Supervisor is responsible for the day to day operation of a before and after school program in local schools throughout the Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford areas. The Supervisor is responsible for developing and implementing a program that meets the developmental needs of children 3.8 - 12 years of age, while adhering to the YMCA policies and procedures and quality standards, as well as the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act.
 
The SACC Supervisor provides coaching and mentoring to the SACC Assistants to ensure the delivery of program and supervision of children takes place. The
Supervisor identifies program needs and requests for appropriate equipment. Since programs may take place in a shared space, incumbents must have excellent interpersonal skills in order to maintain and foster strong and positive relationships with school personnel, parents and other educators to promote the delivery of high quality child care services within the community.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Knowledgeable on the pedagogical practices of the YMCA as they relate to Early Learning and Child Development and understands the Ministry of Education guidelines and curriculum; ensures compliance by staff on site;
  • Understand and comply with all regulatory items as per the Child Care and Early Years Act, YMCA, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour, and others;
  • This position requires the ability and flexibility to work a split shift (before and after school hours);
  • Plan, organize and lead activities for children 3.8 to 12 years of age to meet the developmental needs of children. Program numbers range from 10 to 90 children in attendance;
  • Ensure the health and safety of the children is maintained at all times; Must have knowledge of potential hazards and the ability to put a preventative plan in place;

Salary Range: Level 9 (starting at $16.54 per hour, plus a $2/hour Provincial wage enhancement)
Position Status: Part-Time
Placement: Immediate 
NOTE: This process will also establish a pool of candidates that may be used to fill similar vacancies within YMCAHBB Child Care over the next 6 months.
 
Nature & Scope:
The Assistant is responsible for assisting the Supervisor developing and implementing a before and after school program that meets the developmental needs of children 3.8 - 12 years of age, while adhering to the YMCA policies and procedures and quality standards, as well as the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act. School Age Child Care Assistants are responsible for the supervision of children at all times during program to ensure the health and safety needs of all are met.
 
Since programs may take place in a shared space, incumbents must have excellent interpersonal skills in order to maintain and foster strong and positive relationships with school personnel, parents and other educators to promote the delivery of high quality child care services within the community.
 
Responsibilities:
  • This position requires the ability and flexibility to work a split shift (before and after school hours);
  • Program areas are based on shared space within the school, therefore, requiring movement/set up of equipment on a daily/weekly/ monthly basis
  • Must be familiar with the developmental needs of children ranging from ages 3.8 to 12 years
  • Assist in the planning, organizing, and leading activities for children 3.8 to 12 years of age to meet the developmental needs of children. Program numbers range from 10 to 90 children in attendance
  • Ensure the health and safety of the children is maintained at all times; Must have knowledge of potential hazards and the ability to put a preventative plan in place;
  • Utilizes appropriate behaviour guidance techniques in all interaction with the children;
  • Required to assume leadership in the absence of the supervisor;
  • Participates in Association wide events i.e. YMCA Strong Kids, Trainings, etc.
  • Required to attend monthly meetings and professional learning sessions
Qualifications:
  • Completion of High School education or equivalent
  • A minimum of one year work/volunteer experience with children/youth
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certification (Level C)
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Working Computer knowledge
