DUTIES:
  • To implement engaging and developmentally appropriate activities for 4 - 12 year olds which
    allow for choice, creativity, and independence
·         To take responsibility for the health and safety of the children in your care
·         To follow daily schedules and take responsibility for clean up and organization of supplies
·         To act as a positive role model for the children
·         To work as part of a team of Youth Development Workers
·         Maintaining effective communication with staff, parents, facility staff and manager
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator or related degree such as Recreation and Leisure,
    Child and Youth Worker (subject to approval by the Ministry of Education)
  • Minimum one year experience with School Age children, preferably in a childcare, education
     or recreation setting
  • Understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act and familiarity with the use of
    assessment tools such as ECERS, ITERS, SACERS, High Five
·         Enthusiasm, initiative and a working knowledge of child development
·         Proven ability to work as an effective team member
·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification
  • Standard Food Safety Handler’s Certificate

Rate of pay:   $21.888 per hour, with an additional 2% in lieu of benefits

Assistant Teacher for JK prep class

The North Dumfries Preschool Cooperative Inc. (NDPCI) is a non-profit preschool operating in Ayr.  We offer a toddler class, a preschool class and a junior kindergarten preparation class for students making the transition to elementary school the following September.  The aim of our school is “to provide an opportunity for children to learn the rudiments of good citizenship and equip themselves to proceed to more formal education without difficult adjustment”.  As the sole cooperative preschool in Ayr, we have played an instrumental role in the lives of many families for over 30 years.  
 
We are looking to fill the following position:
 
Assistant Teacher for JK prep class
 
Part-time, Contract Position Starting January 2020 - June 2020
 
Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 12:15 pm- 3:15 pm
 
The successful candidate will have a genuine love for and commitment to working with young children.  Candidates must have a current Criminal Reference Check & Vulnerable Sector Check which is free of any discrepancies and Standard First Aid/CPR level C course or be willing to obtain prior to employment.  The candidate must demonstrate professional judgement on a daily basis within the guidelines set out by the Governing Acts, regulations, by-laws and NDPCI policies. He/she has strong problem solving skills including knowledge about supporting children with behavioural challenges.  The assistant teacher will report to the supervising teacher and support her in implementing our structured program. A diploma in Early Childhood Education or a similar field is an asset.

We are looking for individuals to fill permanent full time positions within our company which has 3 locations.  We are a multi-site operation with children from birth to 4 years.

Job Description would include but not be limited to…
  • To provide daily classroom routines and maintain a safe, enriched, stimulating, developmentally appropriate environment.
  • Assist with daily transitions, of outdoor time, toileting, diapering, snack, rest, lunch, arrival /dismissal.
  • To provide a warm and nurturing environment for children and families
  • To ensure the health and safety of the children
  • To act as a positive role model for the children
  • To respect, have knowledge and awareness of How Does Learning Happen
  • Understand and complies with provincial, municipal and Pluto Day Care Policies and Procedures
  •  Assist with light cleaning and sanitizing.

Qualifications…

  • Registered or in the process of registering and a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
