Are you delighted by the interests, capabilities and energy young children possess?  Do you have the ability to provoke thought and inspire discovery with preschoolers?  We invite you to consider joining our team of collaborative educators who support children’s learning through observation, experimentation and reflection.

The Early Childhood Education Centre (ECEC), a preschool and research facility within the Psychology Department of the University of Waterloo, is seeking applicants for Supply Teacher positions and Maternity Leave coverage.  Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario and qualified with a minimum of an Early Childhood Education Diploma.  A university degree in Early Childhood Education or in a relevant area such as Psychology or Child Studies is preferred. Candidates must be a holder of a valid Standard First Aid and Adult/Infant/Child CPR certificate.  Experience and demonstrated skill in carrying out a developmentally appropriate program for children 2.5 – 5 years in a team teaching format is required. Knowledge and experience with planned components, emergent curriculum and documentation of learning preferred.  Must be able to step in and assume responsibility for all aspects of a Head Teacher or Teaching Assistant role.

Supply/Part-Time RECE

Job Title – Supply/Part-time RECE
May become a scheduled position of up to 5 mornings and/or 2 afternoons a week.
 
Job Description 
Little Mountain Parent Participating Preschool and Open Sesame Headstart Preschool are jointly looking for supply/part-time RECE.  Both programs operate out of the same room but on different days, having a different focus and separate boards.  Also note that both programs are currently looking at the feasibility of hiring a second staff as the new CCEYA requirements affect volunteer recruitment.  Both programs are play-based with Open Sesame having a skill development component based on the individual children’s needs

Duties
- The Supply/Part time RECE would be responsible for working the days when the current RECE is sick or needs to attend to other matters.
-  The Supply/Part time RECE will be able to present and carry out a program that is stimulating and educational and one that meets the needs of the children present.
 -The RECE will work with volunteers – high school and university students as well as adults.
-  The RECE will work closely with parents and outside agencies that assist in the programs. 
 
Open Sesame Headstart Preschool operates from Monday to Wednesday from 9 AM to 11:30AM. Staff hours are usually 8:30 AM to 12PM. This program is a free program offered to families who have preschool children with special needs or have needs within their family. A parent or caregiver must attend a parent group on Monday mornings which is run by our parent group facilitator. The special needs the children have had in the past include – ESL, Speech and Communication delay’s or disorders, Autism, Aspergers, cognitive delay’s, or  behavioural disorders. Currently there is one RECE and two volunteers to a class of up to 12 children ages 2 ½ to 5 years.  Some children do their JK year with this program. Open Sesame works closely with therapists and consultants from Kids Ability, KW Habilitation Preschool Services and other agencies.
 
Little Mountain Parent Participating Preschool operates from Thursday and Friday from 9 AM to 11:30 PM.  Staff hours are usually 8:30 AM to 12 PM. In January we are looking at offering an extended program to 1 pm and/or an afternoon program on Monday – Wednesday.  We have space for 16 children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years.  We are a co-operative program with parents participating in the classroom in place of a second paid staff.  Some children attend both morning preschools and/or do their JK year with the preschool. Little Mountain also works closely with therapists and consultants from Kids Ability, KW Habilitation Preschool Services and other agencies.
 
Qualifications
-RECE  in good standing with the College of ECE
-Current Standard First Aid and Infant/Child CPR
-Vulnerable Sector Check 
-5 years experience working in child care sector or child related field
-Experience working with children who have special needs
-Good record keeping skills
-Some supervising experience of volunteers or students
-Ability to change planned activities as classroom needs direct
-Experience working with parents in accomplishing goals for their child
-Other skills related to providing a quality early childhood education program

After School Care Special Needs

Job Title:  After school Care – Special Needs

Description: 

A family living in the North End of Waterloo (near Conestoga Mall) is looking for after school care for their two teenage children with special needs.  There is one girl and one boy who are 14 and 13 years of age.  Both children have an intellectual disability and one is nonverbal, autistic.  We would like interested individuals to supervise their after school chores and then spend time with them as needed.  There will be opportunities to do crafts, baking, and other activities to help the time pass.  Also, will be allowed to take the children for walks to the local park or mall when the weather permits.
We need someone who can work 3 afternoons a week preferably on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:50 pm to 4:30 pm.  Though we prefer those 3 days, we can be flexible and arrange for any three afternoons of the week.  If this student works well and develops a good relationship with the children then some summer hours may also be available.

Qualifications:
  • Interest in working with children who have special needs
  • Knowledge of autism and applied behaviour analysis not required but may be beneficial
  • Experience working with children

Child Care Teacher

REPORTS TO:         Supervisor, Child Care Centre
HOURS:                   Fixed Term (one year contract, full time hours, evenings & weekends as required)
SALARY:                  $16.03 per hour
START DATE:          November 2015     
 
FUNCTION:  To create a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, while supporting families.  Adhere to the Child Care and Early Learning Act and YMCA policies and procedures.
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create an environment that is safe, clean and welcoming
  • Provide materials for children that will give them the opportunity to learn, be successful and grow as individuals
  • Be responsible for communicating with parents
  • Work with team members to prepare a quality program that meets the appropriate development needs of the children
  • Complete program plans as per curriculum requirements
  • Ensure that a diversified program is developed with established routines that supports and nurtures the development of the child
  • Set-up classroom for children resulting in an environment that will be welcoming with the various age appropriate toys and activities
  • Be responsible for written communication consisting of attendance and accident reports, daily communication book recording messages, and the maintaining of information sheets on each child
  • Administer medication as per requirements
  • Prepare developmental profiles and conduct parent – teacher interviews as required
  • Provide positive child guidance
  • Attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required
  • Assume other duties as assigned
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of Community College ECE diploma or equivalent
  • CECE Membership required for qualified ECE candidates
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Familiar with the Child Care and Early Learning Act
  • Acceptable Police Check     
  • 3-6 months of experience in programming with children and families preferred

DUTIES:
  • To plan and provide a Child and Parent program that supports the development of adaptive problem solving and decision making skills, positive self-esteem, independence and trust.
  • To ensure a safe environment for the children while in the care of the Creative Play Worker.
  • To provide or arrange for first aid in case of emergency.
  • To establish and maintain rapport with parents and respond to parent’s inquiries, suggestions and concerns regarding the Child and Parent program.
  • To respect the confidentiality of children and their families.
  • To follow all policies and procedures of the YWCA.
  • To maintain relevant records.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education or related social science field would be an asset
  • Sound knowledge of child development, preferably of high-needs children.
  • Sound knowledge of developmental, mental and physical health issues.
  • Experience working with high-needs women and children.
  • Knowledge of the current Ontario Child Welfare legislation.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
 
Rate of pay: $19.093 per hour, with an additional 2% in lieu of benefits
Hours: 9 hours per week, three evenings per week.
