POSITION: Child Care Teacher
LOCATION: Cambridge or Kitchener-Waterloo
REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Child Care Centre
HOURS: Part Time variable hours including before and/or after School hours (evenings & weekends as required)
SALARY: $15.72 per hour
START DATE: Immediate

FUNCTION:  To create a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, while supporting families.  Adhere to the Days Nursery Act and YMCA policies and procedures.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
· To work before and/or after school hours with children that are 5 to 12 years of age
· To create an environment that is safe, clean and welcoming.
·  Provide materials for children that will give them the opportunity to learn, be successful and grow as individuals.
· Responsible for communicating with parents.
· Work with team members to prepare a quality program that meets the appropriate development needs of the children.
·Complete program plans as per curriculum requirements.
·Ensures that a diversified program is developed with established routines that supports and nurtures the development of the child.
·Set-up classroom for children resulting in an environment that will be welcoming with the various age appropriate toys and activities.
·Responsible for written communication consisting of attendance and accident reports, daily communication book recording messages and maintain information sheets on each child.
·Administer medication as per requirements.
·Prepare developmental profiles and conduct parent – teacher interviews as required
·Provide positive child guidance.
·Attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required.
·Assumes other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of Community College ECE diploma or equivalent
CECE Membership required for qualified ECE candidates
CPR and First Aid certification
 Familiar with the Day Nurseries Act

 Acceptable Police Check     
3-6 months of experience in programming with children and families preferred

Problem Solving:  identifies an issue, gathers and processes relevant information, coming up with possible solutions, selecting appropriate responses, and implementing them.

  • First Language English Speakers preferred.  
  • Bachelor of Education Degree not necessary but may be given preference.
  • Early childhood experience. Early childhood practicum is acceptable, with references.
  • Applicants without a undergraduate university degree , but having stellar ECE education and experience, will be considered seriously for this age level.
  • Must have additional personal references.

The Professional Resource Centre is a membership based resource centre that provides a large variety of services to professionals and students in the Early Learning and Care Community.

We are currently hiring a part time student.  

Responsibilities include:
·         Responsible for the transfer and integration of a community resource library; including coding, labeling and entering new items to the library system
·         Maintaining and creating an interactive online inventory and directory of resources for the community
·         Clerical and administrative library duties include guiding and supporting the membership body
·         Providing customer service to members and the general public face to face, by telephone and through e-mail by providing general information, guidance/advice, and clarification regarding services and workshops
·         Providing orientation to new members regarding procedures related to the use of tools, equipment and lending library materials
·         Processing fees and registration for memberships, services and workshops
 

QUALIFICATIONS:
·         Must be a current student enrolled in a program at Conestoga College, preferably in the Early Childhood Education Diploma Program, Apprenticeship Program or ELPD Degree Program
·         Ability to work as part of a team
