Provides early childhood education programs that meet the developmental needs of children enrolled in the Region’s corporately-operated Children’s Centres; ensures compliance with the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA), Child & Family Services Act (C&FSA), and Regional policy & procedures; and maintains the standards and practices of the HighScope Curriculum Approach to Early Childhood Education.
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 
 
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, principles and practices related to Early Childhood Education, acquired through completion of a post-secondary diploma/degree in Early Childhood Education, plus 2 years of related experience working with children under 5 years of age.
  • Must meet and maintain requirements detailed in the Child Care & Early Years Act; must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario; provide proof of and maintain a record of immunizations including TB test, as recommended by the local Medical Officer of Health; complete and maintain valid certification in standard first aid, including infant and child CPR; and provide a vulnerable sector Police Records Check, prepared no earlier than six months before hire, and every five years thereafter; must complete an annual "Offense Declaration."
  • Must be eligible for HighScope certification with the HighScope Educational Research Foundation within 12 months of start of employment.
  • Knowledge and experience with inclusive practice, child development, child guidance, child health and nutrition, and special needs children. Knowledge and experience with the HighScope Curriculum Approach to Early Childhood Education. Knowledge of the Child Care & Early Years Act and related Regional policy.
  • Human relations skills, including knowledge of communication and observational techniques.
  • Ability to read professional journals/manuals and participate in job training workshops to maintain current knowledge in the field.
  • Ability to document observations of children’s behaviour and development each day and create written daily program plans based on observations and knowledge of child development; maintain documentation on each child in the classroom and prepare written reports for meetings with parents, team members and external consultants; and prepare application packages and supporting documentation for teacher certification with the HighScope Educational Research Foundation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly while interacting with children daily and adapt communication strategies to meet individual children’s needs; communicate with parents, team members, and other professionals to share information and solicit feedback and input into discussions; respond to questions and inquiries from parents; and discuss occurrences in the centre with the supervisor and other members of the team.
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board is currently recruiting for the DECE  supply list for the 2016-17 school year.
POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Supply  Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) you will  be available for both daily occasional and long term assignments. The responsibilities of the position include collaborating with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning kindergarten program within a classroom setting and/or taking the lead in implementing age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the extended day program.
 
The supply DECE will assist in delivering a faith-based full day early learning kindergarten program and environment to enhance children’s cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development.
 
 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma with experience in a childcare or educational setting;
  • Member in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full day early learning kindergarten program;
  • Experience in planning and implementing age appropriate programs;
  • Basic computer competency;
  • Knowledge of related legislation and pertinent Board policies and directives such as, but not limited to Administration of Medication and/or Special Services
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program; and must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting).
 
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with children, parents, staff and the general public;

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR BOTH CORE AND EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM:
  • Partner with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to plan and implement the early learning kindergarten program through developmentally appropriate curriculum-based activities;
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to support individual student’s  identified needs,   strengths, interests and stages of development;
  • Observe, monitor and assess the development of pupils in JK/K and extended day program;
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and special education teacher to carry out specialized activities to support learning for children requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP);
  • Collaborate with extended day team to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the FDK extended day document
  • Maintain a healthy, physical, emotional and social learning context for students;
  • Provide a variety of experiences to strengthen pro-social skills such as sharing, problem solving and  cooperation;
  • Provide guidance in washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities;
  • Maintain appropriate records for students (e.g. health, attendance, etc.) respecting confidentiality and adhering to all privacy legislation;
  • Collaborate and maintain set-up of classroom (e.g. display, organization of materials etc.);
  • Where applicable, attend staff meetings, appropriate school-level meetings and professional development activities;
  • Perform related administrative functions as required such as attendance and billing in the extended day program
  • Complete any duties as assigned by principal.
 
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM:
  • Provide supervision and age appropriate programming for children aged 4 to 12 years;

SCHEDULE AND HOURS OF WORK:
Full-time positions:                 7 hours/day plus ½ to 1 hour per day unpaid lunch
Part time positions:                  3.5 hours/day    
 
SCHEDULES will vary from school to school and will range from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Daily occasional supply DECEs are normally called for assignments that range from a start at 8 am to those that end at 6:00 pm.
 
Long Term assignments may include schedules that commence at 7:00 am to 2:30 pm or 10:30 am to 6:00 pm.

• Be responsible for written communication consisting of attendance and accident reports, daily communication book recording messages, and the maintenance of information sheets on each child
• Administer medication as per requirements
• Prepare developmental profiles and conduct parent-teacher interviews as required
• Provide positive child guidance

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completion of Community College ECE diploma or equivalent • CECE Membership required for qualified ECE candidates
• CPR and First Aid certification
• Available Before and After School hours
• Proven computer knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Screening

The Community Resource Centre is Looking a New Registered Early Childhood Educators

The Community Resource Centre is now accepting applications for: 
Registered Early Childhood Educators
 
 We are currently looking for  Registered Early Childhood Educators  to work at our Licensed Childcare Centre’s in Fergus and Elora. The chosen applicants will provide developmentally appropriate activities for the children and supervise them through daily routines. These  positions range from  approximately 27 to 40 hours weekly and may include hours in the preschool, JK/SK and school age programs. 
 
 
Qualifications for all positions listed above include: 
  • RECE Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 years experience in a licensed childcare centre
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Ability to work as a team player or an individual
  • Experience working with children
  • Planning and implementing curriculum
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Valid drivers license and a reliable car
  • Standard First Aid and Child and Infant CPR
  • Clear Criminal Reference Check including vulnerable sector
