Job DetailsApplicants must be in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators and possess Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED at the date of application. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must complete a Physical Demands Test. Human Resources will confirm the date/time of the test with the successful candidate. The successful applicant to this position will automatically be added to the WRDSB Designated Early Childhood Educator Supply List.
THIS POSTING IS OPEN TO CANDIDATES WHO ARE NOT ON THE WRDSB SUPPLY EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR LIST.
The Human Resources Department will forward all ELIGIBLE applications to the Extended Day Manager. (See first paragraph) The Principal of the school will screen applications and may select those he/she wishes to consider from the qualified applicants. Neither Human Resources nor the Principal will necessarily respond to each applicant.
The successful candidate will be committed to working in the WRDSB Elementary Schools offering the WRDSB Extended Day Program. As early as the evening prior or within 1 hour of the shift start time, the WRDSB EasyConnect Operator will confirm the location of the work (school and classroom) via telephone. Successful candidates will work and be paid for a seven hour shift guaranteed daily, including for PD Days.
Term of assignment(s) is subject to change with appropriate notice. Individuals currently in an assignment for a period of time that extends into the assignment of the long-term occasional position(s) posted herein are not eligible to apply.
Long term occasional DECEs in an assignment greater than eighty (80) instructional days or four (4) months in duration, are eligible for up to two (2) full unpaid days per school year.
Under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, S.O. 2014, c. 11, Sched. 1 Ontario Regulation 137/15 for staff screening and police record checks;
Employees [DECEs, EAs, CYWs] working in licensed child care programs are required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check issued by a Police Service on or before every fifth anniversary after the date of the most recent vulnerable sector check. In addition, employees are required to complete an annual offence declaration (annually recorded through the WRDSB staff portal). Educators working in Before and After School Programs are required to complete a request for VSC through your local police service [available online] and submit your original electronic copy to [email protected] for review.
Employees are required to have a valid first aid and cpr certificate and or be registered to update their training within the year.
It is the responsibility of interested candidates to ensure that their application, including a resume and a copy of a current Certificate of Qualification is submitted through Apply to Education. SUPPLY DESIGNATED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS

The Waterloo Region District School Board is currently seeking applications for ‘Supply Designated Early Childhood Educators’.
Applications will only be accepted from applicants currently registered with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators and current Early Childhood Education students scheduled to graduate prior to August 2025. NOTE that conditional offers will be made to successful applicants until such time as registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators in Good Standing is confirmed. Prior to registration, successful candidates may be deployed on an emergency basis.
The Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) will partner with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning kindergarten program within a classroom setting. The DECE will also provide supervision and age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the extended day program as required. The DECE will report to the Principal of the school.
Successful candidates for the supply positions will be working on an “on call” basis from September to June.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hold a two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma preferably with experience in a childcare of educational setting (or in the final year of the program)
  • Provide proof of registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (or in process)
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED
Applications and supporting documentation stating qualifications and experience, including a copy of your
Certificate of Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (if applicable) and proof of Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED must be included in your portfolio.

General Description of Duties:
  • Delivery of a Child Centered Program 
  • Meaningful and purposeful engagement with Children 
  • Preparing nutritious snacks  
  • Communicating regularly with staff and supervisor  

Minimum Requirements:
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) or experience working in a childcare setting 
  • Standard CPR/First Aid 
  • Committed to providing quality inclusive childcare programming 
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods; and must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting) 
 
Desirable Assets:
  • Good Standing with the College of ECE’s 
  • Excellent Communication and teamwork skills 
  • Comfortable working in all program areas (e.g. infants, toddlers)
