We require qualified, reliable individuals to operate our YDP programs before and after school, at various locations located throughout the Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo areas.Other part time and supply work available.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support and facilitate a high quality program for children based on observation
  • Provide a warm and nurturing environment where children are valued and respected with an emphasis on self-esteem, security, choice making, acceptance of individual and trust
  • Act as a resource to parents in problem solving situations
  • Support and document areas including programming, curriculum and children
  • Uphold the Day Nurseries Act along with the guidelines in the staff handbook
  • Maintain Raising The Bar quality initiative which includes individual professional learning
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
 
  • Two year diploma in Early Childhood Education or Recreation and Leisure Services
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including a positive attitude, tact, discretion and patience
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • Creative and flexible, able to participate in solving problems
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Willing to take initiative
  • Ability to apply the principles of child development and positive behaviour

Carizon Hiring Child Care Worker

As a Child Care Worker you contribute to a program that is
conducive to the social, emotional and cognitive development of pre-schoolers and infants attending the childcare program. The incumbent works closely with the full program team and contributes by creating an environment in the childcare division that is safe, enriching and stimulating for child care. 
 
We are currently recruiting for a number of positions including: 

 1 vacancy at Knox Presbyterian Church (Waterloo) 
 2 vacancies at Trinity United Church (Kitchener) 
 3-4 relief staff to work between locations 

  DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
  Assist the Childcare Supervisor in planning organizing and supervising the child care program  
  Plan and organize age-appropriate crafts/activities and obtain program materials 
  Maintain  attendance and other care records required for information 
  Supervise the children in the crafts/activities 
  Check that the equipment used in childcare is safe secure and age-appropriate 
  Wash and disinfect toys on a weekly basis and change and collect infant laundry as required  
  Maintain the childcare area, setting up and taking down as required 
  Manage relationship with parents and provide a positive role model for parents; demonstrate appropriate interactions with children and report positive and negative incidents to the Childcare Supervisor 
  Maintain a child centred focus and build trusting relationships with the parents and share your professional observations of their child's time at the program 
 Contribute to team effectiveness by sharing information, attending meetings and being flexible to support the overall team 
 Individual may be assigned to focus on infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers (appropriate planning time will be included in the work schedule)  
 Supervise the children for all activities during the program and until they are returned to their parents 
  Maintain the quality and standards of the program 
  Support the work of Carizon in other ways, as required 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  
  Early Childhood Education background prefered or equivalency  
  1-3 years experience 
  Detailed knowledge and understanding of early childhood development and child care practices and standards in Canada 
  First aid training and experience

QUALIFICATIONS: 
  The incumbent requires excellent communication skills, which includes; courtesy, tact, discretion, providing detailed explanations, persuasion, interpretation, and diplomacy 
 Self-motivated, committed, very organized and sensitive to the needs of participants 
 Satisfactory criminal record check for vulnerable sector (within past 6 months)

FUNCTION: To create a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, while supporting families. Adhere to the Days Nursery Act and YMCA policies and procedures.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create an environment that is safe, clean and welcoming
  • Provide materials for children that will give them the opportunity to learn, be successful and grow as individuals
  • Be responsible for communicating with parents
  • Work with team members to prepare a quality program that meets the appropriate developmental needs of the children
  • Complete program plans as per curriculum requirements
  • Ensure that a diversified program is developed with established routines that supports and nurtures the development of the child
  • Set-up classroom with the various age appropriate toys and activities for children resulting in an environment that will be welcoming
  • Be responsible for written communication consisting of: attendance and accident reports, daily communication book, recording messages,
  • and the maintenance of information sheets on each child
  • Administer medication as per requirements
  • Prepare developmental profiles and conduct parent-teacher interviews as required
  • Provide positive child guidance
  • Attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required
  • Assume other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of Community College ECE diploma or equivalent
  • CECE Membership required for qualified ECE candidates
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Familiar with the Day Nurseries Act
  • Acceptable Police Check
  • 3-6 months of experience in programming with children and families preferred

Waterloo Co-Operative Preschool Hiring

Position Available: Assistant RECE Teacher, Part time Seasonal

Waterloo Co-Operative Preschool is a non-profit co-operative preschool run for the children, by the teachers and parents. We require an ECE who has experience working with children aged 18 months to 5 years to be the assistant teacher in a part time role at our school.  Our ideal candidate will be caring, enthusiastic, energetic and compassionate and will possess a true love of working with young children and their families.  The applicant must possess an ECE diploma with the intent to register with the College of ECE.

Programming at Waterloo Co-Operative Preschool runs from September to June, with breaks in December and March.

Hours of the Assistant RECE are dependent on the enrollment in each class. The average number of hours is between 15-20 hours per week and, depending on the time of year, could increase to as many as 31 hours per week. This position requires an individual who is a great team player and is flexible based on the needs of the school/ Lead Teacher.

Qualifications and Requirements
·         Acts as the Assistant Teacher for all classes whose ratios call for a second RECE (or at the request of the Lead Teacher and/or Board of Directors)

·         Maintains professional development to meet licensing requirements (including registration with the College of the ECE and First Aid)

·         Provides training for participating parents on in-class roles & duties throughout the year

·         Ensures open communication with parents, and reports all concerns to Lead Teacher and/or Board of Directors

·         Chairs the Snack Committee

·         Attends meetings, events and open houses as required

·         Assists in the planning and implementation of programs and themes, rotates toys, ensures upkeep of the classroom, bulletin boards, playground and all areas of the Preschool

·         Comfortable and confident acting in a leadership role with the children, volunteers and participating parents

·         Ensures the safety and security of children, staff, volunteers and visitors at all times. Suggests and implements improvements on current practices and procedures in order to improve the overall safety and functionality of the Preschool

·         Performs other duties as requested by the Lead Teacher or the Board of Directors

Wage: Paid bi-weekly minimum of $16.00/hour plus wage subsidy, based on experience.

Rate of pay:   $19.381 per hour, with an additional 2% in lieu of benefits
Hours:  10 hours per week (Monday to Friday mornings)
13.75 hours per week (Monday to Friday afternoons)
