Childcare Worker I (Unionized Position)

Organization: YWCA Bridgeport Childcare Centre
Wage: $18.873 per hour 
Hours/wkly: 37.5 hours per week

Responsiblities:
  • To plan and implement a stimulating, developmentally appropriate play-based program for children and their families
  • To work as part of a team of Childcare Workers and
    monitor the quality of the program
  • To provide a warm and nurturing environment for children and families
  • To maintain effective communication with staff, parents and coordinator
  • To ensure the health and safety of the children 
  • To act as a positive role model for the children

Qualifications:
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator or related degree or diploma (subject to approval by the Ministry of Education)
  • CPR and First Aid Training
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with preschool children in a licensed childcare setting
  • Proven ability to work as an effective team member

Child Care Teacher

POSITION: Child Care Teacher
REPORTS TO: Supervisor,Child Care Centre
HOURS: Full time and Part Time
(evenings & weekends as required)
SALARY: $15.41 per hour
START DATE: Immediate

Overview of the Position:
To create a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, while supporting families. Adhere to the Days Nursery Act and YMCA policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Create an environment that is safe, clean and welcoming

· Provide materials for children that will give them the opportunity to learn, be successful and grow as individuals

· Be responsible for communicating with parents

· Work with team members to prepare a quality program that meets the appropriate development needs of the children

· Complete program plans as per curriculum requirements

· Ensure that a diversified program is developed with
established routines that supports and nurtures the development of the child

· Set-up classroom for children resulting in an environment that will be welcoming with the various age appropriate toys and activities

· Be responsible for written communication consisting of attendance and accident reports, daily communication book recording messages, and maintain information sheets on each child

· Administer medication as per requirements

· Prepare developmental profiles and conduct parent – teacher
interviews as required

· Provide positive child guidance

· Attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required

· Assume other duties as assigned


 QUALIFICATIONS:

· Completion of Community College ECE diploma or equivalent

· CECE Membership required for qualified ECE candidates

· CPR and First Aid certification

· Familiar with the Day Nurseries Act

· Acceptable Police Check      

· 3-6 months of experience in programming with children and
families preferred

Overview of the position:

2 positions Full-time Permanent, 1 position Temporary (Sept 2013-June 2014 at Driftwood site)

Responsibilities:

We require three qualified individuals to work with team members to provide a quality early childhood education program that models the philosophy taught in the Early Childhood Program.

. Plan and adapt the program and environment to meet the needs of individual children as well as the group

. Use quality assessment tools

. Ensure the health and safety of children

. Provide supervision to all play areas and all
experiences/routines that occur

. Plan, implement and document experiences that meet the interests and developmental needs of the children

. Observe, document and assess the development of the
children

. Interact positively with children and adults

. Uphold the Day Nurseries Act and the Centre’s staff handbook

. Model appropriate curriculum strategies as taught in the ECE Program

. Provide students, or those less familiar with the program,
verbal feedback and guidance to ensure the smooth flow of the program and maintain a quality experience for children and their families

. Share information and observations with supervisor

. Establish and maintain a professional relationship with parents

. Participate in the initial intake process

. Meet with parents privately at their request or when necessary to share more detailed information about their child’s progress

. Communicate respectfully while upholding confidentiality

. Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development activities

. Offer support and assistance to other staff in the child care centre

. Share knowledge and expertise

. Report unusual situations (i.e. accidents, parent
requests/concerns, schedule changes, etc.) to supervisor

Qualifications:

. Two year diploma in Early Childhood Education

. A member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario

. Working experience in a licensed child care setting, preferably one that has ECE students placed in it

. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

. Good time management and organization skills

. Creative and flexible, able to participate in solving problems

. Ability to apply the principles of child development and positive behavior

. Current certification in CPR and First Aid and training in the use of Environmental Assessment Tools are considered assets
