St. John's Christian Nursery School is hiring a part time Registered Early Childhood Educator. 
 
Work hours will be Monday through Friday 8:30am – 12:00pm and some Fridays afternoons for staff meetings and some evening hours for special events.  St. John’s is closed for the summer months of July and August. 
 
MAJOR DUTIES:
  • Plans and implements developmentally appropriate programs
  • Evaluates the program to make sure it meets the needs of individual children and the needs of the group
  • Ensures the children’s environment is healthy and safe
  • To work with outside community resources
  • Attends to physical/emotional needs of children
  • Ensures communication with parents is daily and ongoing
  • Works within a team atmosphere
  • Contributes to the ongoing operation of the Nursery School

TENANT SUPPORT WORKER

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of a multi disciplinary staff team, you will provide assistance to tenants living in YWCA Supportive Housing to support their independent living and maintain their housing.
Provide immediate support to tenants in conflict following an established Conflict Resolution Program and respond to requests for support and crisis intervention.
Establish positive relationships with tenants and participate in the creation of a stable, secure environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma and abuse and the impact of poverty and homelessness on individuals of all ages, normally obtained through the completion of a 2-year college program in Social Services and 2 years work experience in a residential or supportive housing environment. 
  • Knowledge in harm reduction philosophies and techniques, as well as crisis and suicide intervention skills
  • Experience working within the parameters of a Conflict Resolution Program.
  • Understanding of current legislation pertaining to housing, advocacy and tenant/landlord rights, usually obtained through a general knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act.
  • Ability to think independently, set priorities and resolve problems effectively and efficiently.
  • Valid certifications in Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and Overdose prevention training.

FUNCTION: To facilitate group and individual pre-employment programming of a minimum of 60 hours to youth in transition to work who often have multiple barriers to employment.  Programming will focus on life skills, career decision-making, employability skills development/enhancement, job search and job maintenance.
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                                                                         
  • Develop and deliver pre-employment curriculum content to actively engage youth and meet the program objectives of developing career, employability and personal management skills
  • Utilize a variety of teaching techniques that appeal to diverse learning styles, experience and education levels.
  • Ongoing evaluation of effectiveness of curriculum and method/format of delivery.
  • Build trust and establish rapport with participants and respond to individual learning needs and strengths
  • Document participants’ progress through the pre-employment curriculum and identify any necessary supports or training /certification required for successful placement.
  • Provide clear rationales to support Employment Specialists and Job Developers in determining access to appropriate job placements, individual supports and job retention services.
  • Assist the team in meeting the program’s service quality standards as set out by the funder.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 2 – 3 years related experience
  • Post-Secondary Education in a related field
  • Career Development Practitioner and/or Life Skills Coach training
  • Continuing education in teaching/instructing/group facilitation
  • Intermediate computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and Access
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required

Inspiring Minds ELC has positions available in our toddler, preschool, kindergarten and school age programs, to work approximately 15 – 20 hours per week, commencing September 2016. Remuneration is dependent on experience.

Peekaboo Child Care Centre, is currently seeking a Registered Early Childhood Educator for a full time position.
Required Background: Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized community college; Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators; Working knowledge of the Child Care Early Years Act regulations; Current Standard First Aid with CPR (C); Current negative Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen (within six months); Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism by providing strong customer service, ability to listen and respond appropriately to children and co-workers.
Preferred Background: Experience in a child care setting; Knowledge of How Does Learning Happen and Early Learning for Every Child Today; Working with children with differing abilities and their families; Knowledge and application of the Environment Rating Scales; Knowledge of Quality First program; Computer literacy.

Duties:
As a Registered Early Childhood Educator, you would be responsible for promoting Peekaboo’s vision, philosophy, policies, and procedures. You would also be responsible for providing a stimulating environment for the children. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensures all actions and activities meet Child Care Early Years Act regulations.
  • Implements Health and Safety Standards.
  • Supports children through play with a emergent curriculum approach, with support from academic programs
  • Observes and documents children development and learning and integrates outcomes of observations into curriculum development
  • Integrates concepts of How does learning happen and Early Learning for Every Child Today throughout curriculum development and delivery
  • Prepares, maintains, and supervises classroom and playground activities.
  • Works in partnership with classroom team members and Management to share pertinent information concerning children, their families and classroom operations.
  • Develop and maintains positive relationships with families.
  • Collaborates with Community Service Providers to support all children including the implementation of programs and activities for children with differing abilities.

These positions will report to the Supervisor of the Child Care Centre. The successful applicant will have  exposure to “How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years (2014)” as this document is used for the purpose of guiding licensed child care programs under subsection 55 (3) of the CCEYA.  The successful applicant will work 35 hours per week at a rate of $11.25 per hour.  The position will start on July 11th and end on August 27th.
 
 
In order to qualify for these positions you must:
 
a)  be between the age of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
b)  be registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;
c)  intend to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma
  • 1-3 months of related experience an asset  
  • ECE Diploma or equivalent (an asset)
  • Standard First Aid/CPR/AED
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Second language (an asset)
  • Clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Screening
 
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Communication: Communicates in a thorough, clear and timely manner to support information sharing.
Concern for Health and Safety: Acknowledges and understands how to manage and educate others of risk and harm reduction.
Creativity and Innovation: Develops new ways or adapts existing ideas to help achieve desired results
Initiative: Knows when to do the right thing.
Relationship Building and Collaboration: Builds positive interactions both internally and externally to build enthusiasm and appreciation to achieve work related goals.
Tolerance for Ambiguity: Functions effectively in situations of less than perfect or incomplete information.
In addition to the above competencies the Association Core Competencies are required, Commitment to Organization Vision and Values, Diversity, Integrity, Teamwork
