Special Needs Access Point (SNAP) Resource Coordinator
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with early childhood educators, families and other professionals to coordinate and maintain a single point of access and intake system for children from birth to six (6) years of age requiring special needs resourcing or early intervention services in the Waterloo Region. The SNAP Resource Coordinator will demonstrate and promote daily inclusive early learning and child care principles and best practices within the context of a family-centred approach.
  • The successful candidate will possess an Early Childhood Education degree or Diploma, a Resource Teacher certificate (or equivalency), be registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (Ontario) and a minimum of three years’ direct experience working in a licensed early learning and child care program with children who have complex needs.
  • The incumbent must have a good knowledge of child development, child care best practices, family dynamics, inclusive early learning, early childhood/special needs programming, and the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEY) and the Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), Province of Ontario.
  • Demonstrated competency and skill in the use of computers and software (e.g., MS Office, databases, e-mail, internet).
  • Current Standard First Aid is an asset.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
Hours: The position is for 40 hours per week (some flexibility required)

Job Purpose
 
SMS Teachers are expected to have a high level of expertise in their teaching disciplines and are effective, stimulating and competent facilitators of the educational process. The Youth Worker will develop, plan and facilitate activities for Community Sheroes, a mentorship program for girls 12-16 centered on social justice, leadership, team work, citizenship, and community development and change.  This position is responsible for organizing weekly programming opportunities, including activities to enhance understanding of community and systemic issues, social justice initiatives, advocacy and change making, as well as organizing volunteer opportunities for program participants and mentors.
 
Qualifications:
  • Degree or diploma in the area of social work, social justice, women’s studies, child and youth worker, recreation or other relevant field of study.
  • Work experience with youth, developing and facilitating youth-led programming.
  • Awareness of issues and community resources relevant to pre-teen and teenage girls.

The Cities of Kitchener and Waterloo are committed to the inclusion of children and youth with disabilities in municipal summer recreation programs. Through the Every Kid Counts program children and youth with physical, developmental and/or emotional/behavioural needs receive support from inclusion workers to assist with their participation in municipal summer recreation programs.

Position Overview and Personal Characteristics of an Inclusion Support Worker:
As an Inclusion Support Worker, you will provide 1:1 support to a child in a municipal camp. You will have a strong interest in learning about and connecting with your camper and will provide unique supports and accommodations encouraging maximum participation. You are excited about removing program barriers and helping others. You will work closely with camp staff to provide the best camp experience for not just your camper, but the camp as a whole. You are not afraid to be silly, and to take on the “if at first you don’t succeed… try, try again!” approach. Inclusion Workers are:

  • Assists program participants with physical assistance and personal care, including support during mealtimes and time away from the group if needed
  • Supports camp staff to ensure activities are adapted/modified as necessary
  • Administers authorized medication to participants, noting details on appropriate form.
  • Communicates with parents/caregivers in a constructive, positive manner, providing daily feedback and supporting the maintenance of meaningful relationships with families
  • Monitors program participants and ensures safe practices.
  • Completes forms and reports including accident/incident reports, personal care forms, and participant strategy forms.
  • Takes on a supportive role at designated times, providing relief to other support workers and providing consultation visits to various sites when requested by the coordination team.
  • Provides first aid as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Certifications:
  • Must have minimum Grade 12 diploma plus up to 1 year of additional job related post-secondary education.
  • Must have Current Standard First Aid, CPR-C certification as of June 1, 2018
  • Must be willing to obtain a current and satisfactory police reference check – vulnerable sector (issued after Jan. 31, 2018)
  • Prevention and management of aggressive behaviour (post-hire)
Experience:
  • Must have a minimum of 3 months of related experience
  • Must have experience working with children and youth with disabilities, preferably in a recreational setting
Working Conditions:
  • Inclusion Support Workers work in noisy and busy day camp environments
  • Camp locations vary, with some having a large outdoor component and/or swimming component.
Physical Requirements:
  •  Ability to lift 35 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to swim/provide support in the water
  • It is recommended that vaccinations are updated and current for the period of employment
Employment Dates: June 11 – August 24, 2018
Hours a week: 28-40 hours/week
Hours of work: 8:30am – 4:30pm (hours may vary)
Wage range: $18.69/hour
Additional Information:
  • No work June 25 –June 29 (may be required to work July 2)
  • Not required to work August 6 for Civic Holiday
  • Contract may be extended to include August 27- 31 if program demands require it.

INHABIT EDUCATION is an Inuit-owned educational publishing company that produces materials for students and teachers in Nunavut. We primarily publish in Inuktut and English, as well as in French. Our mandate is to provide culturally appropriate and pedagogically rigorous educational materials for Inuit students and educators.
 
We are looking to hire an Educational Consultant to take a supportive role in developing a quickly expanding educational list of early elementary grades/ECE readers, big books, instructor support and development tools, and play-based learning resources.
 
The Educational Consultant will work out of either our Toronto office or our Iqaluit office and take on the following duties:
 
  • Researching ECE teacher support materials available in Canada and internationally
  • Writing teacher’s resources, activity guides, and other instructional materials to support a variety of curricular areas at the ECE level
  • Reviewing ECE teacher materials for clarity, plain language, and user-friendliness
  • Contributing to the development of other educational materials for early elementary teachers and students
  • Completion of some administrative duties as required
 
Required skills and experience:
 
  • At least two years of experience teaching in the early elementary school years, and/or working in an early childhood education environment
  • Extensive knowledge of currently available teacher resources at the early childhood levels
  • Able to writing and communicate clearly
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexible and willing to consider alternate perspectives
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines

Job purpose
The Agriventure Program Educator is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing programs and experiences for children in both large and small group settings. The Educator is responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. The incumbent will provide high quality educational and recreational experiences for participants that embody our core values of honesty, respect and community.
Duties and responsibilities
Prior to Camp
  • Participate actively in orientation and training
  • Assist in whole camp planning as well as assist in writing lessons for their area of responsibility (There are 4 areas of focus: Cooking, Environment/Gardening, Animals, Heritage)
  • Ensure that resources needed for your activities are ordered or arranged
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp programs.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas.
During Camp
  • Take turns being responsible for “opening or closing” camp
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
  •  Responsibility for campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week.
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues with assistance from Supervisor
  • Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter on a daily and weekly basis
  • Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Camp Supervisor.
  •  Present a “Role Model” type behaviour at all times
  • Assist to guide Junior Counselors to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
  •  Experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with young children
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year, and intends to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year (proof of student status will be required)
  • Completion of a minimum of 1 yr of post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Child Development or Concurrent Education, Environmental Studies, or related program.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
Physical Requirements-Working Conditions
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, team building initiatives, physical games, and activities.
  • Able to work in an outdoor environment
Pay & Employment Specifics
  • $15 hourly
  • Monday to Friday, between 8am & 5:30pm
  • June 18 to August 24 (with option to work 30hrs/ week May and June)
