FUNCTION: This incumbent is responsible to create a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, while supporting families.  Adhere to the Child Care and Early Years Act 2014 (CCEYA), curriculum and program model expectations (Playing To Learn, Place To Connect, How Does Learning Happen) and follow YMCA policies and procedures.  Provide support and assistance on the daily operations of the centre. 
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follow the guidelines/expectations of the CCEYA , Extended Day and Youth Development Programs as defined by the school board and  YMCA Policy and Procedures
  • Create an environment that is safe, clean and welcoming.  Provide positive child guidance. 
  • Provide materials for children that will give them the opportunity to learn, be successful and grow as individuals.
  • Responsible for communicating with parents and on site partners, agencies. 
  • Work with team members to prepare a quality program that meets appropriate developmental needs of the children.
  • Complete program plans as per curriculum requirements. Prepare developmental profiles and conduct parent-teacher interviews as required
  • Ensures that a diversified program is developed with established routines that support and nurtures the development of the child.
  • Set-up classroom environment for children that is welcoming with various age appropriate toys and activities.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with all staff, parents and external contacts.
  • Maintain parent and child relationships on a daily basis and provide ongoing parent education and information.
  • Responsible for daily administration, including documentation of centre occurrences, attendance and curriculum projects as required.
  • Administer medication as per requirements.
  • Communicate with Supervisor when support/guidance is required for difficult situations regarding the children.
  • Act as primary lead in defined curriculum grouping(s).
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of Community College ECE diploma or equivalent
  • RECE Membership required for qualified ECE candidates
  • 1 – 2 years of relevant experience
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Familiar with the Child Care and Early Years Act 2014 (CCEYA)
  • Proven computer knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Available before and after school hours
  • Driver’s license and vehicle required to travel to site locations
  • Acceptable Police Check for Vulnerable Sector or willingness to obtain at own cost

Canada Summer Job position – Early Learning Program Facilitator

Our Place Family Resource and Early Years Centre is a vibrant Family Resource Centre and Ontario Early Years Centre focusing on early learning and family support. 
 
Main Job responsibilities:
 
  • Under the guidance and direction of the Early Years Manager, plan, develop and deliver high quality play based, child centered programs that promote early learning and support children’s holistic development from birth to 6 years.
  • Provide a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment that supports a sense of belonging for children and their families.
  • Assisting families in accessing information and community resources related to child development and early learning. 
 
Qualifications
 
  • Must be enrolled in Community College or University program focusing on child development, early learning or family support e.g. Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Child and Family Studies, Child and Youth worker, Education Assistant program.  Experience and/or education related to children pre birth-6 years of age and their families.
  • Standard CPR/First Aid required
  • Police Check and Family and Children’s Services Check required
  • Demonstrated interest, knowledge and/or experience with emergent curriculum, play based learning and early learning pedagogy, specifically the Ministry of Education’s How Does Learning Happen? document.
  • Proven ability and willingness to work as an integral member of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Understand a variety of cultures and value systems, and provide inclusive programs and non-judgmental support.
  • French or other second language an asset
 
Eligibility: This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, so students must:
 
  • Be between the ages of 15‐30 years at the start of employment;
  • Have been registered as a full time student in the 16/17 academic year and intend to return to school

Early Years Assistant

Job Title:             Early Years Assistant
Hours of Work:  Monday to Friday
Status:                Summer Student - 7 week position

The Early Years Assistant will report to the Registered ECE/Parent Educator.  They will be assigned to assist in specific programs for children aged birth to six years and their parents and caregivers throughout the week.  If you are a student in an Early Childhood Development program or have an interest in applying to one, please apply.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Assists with program planning and implementing program activities with staff person in program
  • Ensures program spaces are set up with direction from the facilitator in program
  • Maintains a safe, positive enriching environment for children through play and age-appropriate activities
  • Ensures program space is cleaned up after each session
  • Follows Guelph CHC’s policies: Actions, Beliefs and Commitments
  • Document children’s play with direction from facilitator in program
  • Communicates with the facilitator re program concerns
  • Guide play through the principals of How Does Learning Happen
 
Working Environment
  • Varies from site to site with locations all over Guelph
  • Some programs may be outdoors  
  • Noise levels may be moderate to high
  • Multi-tasking pressures required during program
 
Required Qualifications
 
  • Student of an Early Childhood Education Program or an intent to apply to an Early Childhood Education program
  • The ability to interact with children birth to six years and their parents
  • Basic knowledge of Attachment Theory, an asset but not required
  • Experience working with groups of children and parents, an asset
  • Good communication and listening skills with both children and adults
  • Highly motivated and energetic, reliable and committed
  • Flexible schedule throughout the week
  • Understand the need for confidentiality in dealing with clients
  • Some experience with MS Office
