Permanent Part-Time and Full Time RECE Positions
Location: Various Locations
Start Date: TBD ~  September 2018
RECE Qualified Rate: $21.754 + %4 vacation
Non-RECE Rate: $18.934 + %4 vacation
 
Applications will be accepted from all Registered Early Childhood Educators and those in a related field as approved by the Ministry of Education. Please join our Professional Team as we open a brand new centre this September 2018.  Thus various positions will become available at all of our centres throughout the Region.
 
Reporting to the Supervisor of the Child Care Centre or Youth Development Program. The successful applicant will be responsible for using “How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, 2014” the document used for the purpose of guiding licensed child care programs under subsection 55 (3) of the CCEYA.  The successful applicant for the position will be placed on the RECE grid of the employee agreement, hours will be set by the Supervisor and may vary as program dictates.
 
Responsibilities:
Understands and is able to use the document titled “How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, 2014. All staff are responsible for understanding and implementing “Intentional Joyfulness ~ Working in Reflective Ways in JHCCC Classrooms ~ Our Living Document” into their daily practice. Staff are responsible for assigning tasks to ECE students and volunteers as necessary, and attending monthly staff meetings. Adhere to staff and parent policies as set by the Board of Directors. 
 
Qualifications:
  • ECE Diploma or Degree or equivalent as approved by the Ministry of Education.
  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Certificate.
  • WHMIS Certificate.
  • Health and Safety Training Certificate.
  • Ability to obtain an acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector’s Check dated within 6 months of employment.
  • Experience in licensed Child Care work and activities.
  • Has the ability to communicate effectively with other staff and the public.
  • Ability to set priorities and complete assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • Is enthusiastic, flexible, dedicated and dependable.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to use professional judgment on a daily basis within guidelines established by the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, regional and program policies.

Position overview:
As a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) you will  be available for daily occasional, long term  and permanent assignments. The responsibilities of the position include collaborating with the classroom teacher to plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten program within a classroom setting and/or taking the lead in implementing age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the Extended Day Program.
 
The DECE will assist in delivering a faith-based full day early learning kindergarten program in an environment to enhance children’s cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Baptized and Practicing Roman Catholic
  • A two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma with experience in a childcare or educational setting;
  • Member in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full day early learning kindergarten program;
  • Experience in planning and implementing age appropriate programs;
  • Basic computer competency;
  • Knowledge of related legislation and pertinent Board policies and directives such as, but not limited to Administration of Medication and/or Special Services
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program; and must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting).

Responsibilities for Both Core and Extended day program:
  • Partner with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to plan and implement the early learning kindergarten and extended day program(s) through developmentally appropriate curriculum-based activities;
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to support individual student’s  identified needs, strengths, interests and stages of development;
  • Observe, monitor and assess the development of pupils in Kindergarten and/or Extended Day Program;
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and special education teacher to carry out specialized activities to support learning for children requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP);
  • Collaborate with extended day team to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the extended day expectations;
  • Maintain a healthy, physical, emotional and social learning context for students;
  • Provide a variety of experiences to strengthen pro-social skills such as sharing, problem solving and  cooperation;
  • Provide guidance in washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities;
  • Maintain appropriate records for students (e.g. health, attendance, etc.) respecting confidentiality and adhering to all privacy legislation;
  • Collaborate and maintain set-up of classroom (e.g. display, organization of materials etc.);
  • Where applicable, attend staff meetings, appropriate school-level meetings and professional development activities;
  • Perform related administrative functions as required such as attendance and billing in the extended day program
  • Complete any duties as assigned by principal.
Additional Responsibilities for Extended day program:
 
  • Provide supervision and age appropriate programming for children aged 4 to 12 years;
  • Perform related administrative functions as required;
  • Communicate with parents and school staff as appropriate;
  • Facilitate nutrition breaks;
  • Complete other related duties as assigned by the principal.  
 
Rate of Pay for Daily Occasional Supply: $20.70 per hour
 
Rate of Pay (Grid) for Permanent & Long Term in an Assignment 40 consecutive days or more: $20.70 - $27.07 per hour*
*based on years of experience while being a member of the College of Early Childhood Educators
 
Schedule and Hours of Work:
 
Full-time positions:                 7 hours/day plus ½ to 1 hour per day unpaid lunch
Part time positions:                 3.5 hours/day             
 
Schedules will vary from school to school and will range from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
DECEs are normally called for assignments that range from a start at 8 am to those that end at 6:00 pm.
Long Term assignments may include schedules that commence at 7:00 am to 2:30 pm or 10:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Duties and responsibilities
 
  • Under the direction of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) implements programming in accordance with the policies and philosophies of the school.
  • Review and abides by all policies and procedures as set out in the Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Adapt to children’s emotional, social, cognitive and physical development and demonstrates the importance of building upon the four foundations of learning.
  • Aware of research supporting the importance of Outdoor and Forrest and Nature School curriculum.
  • Respect individual differences. Understand the concepts of multiculturalism, diversity and anti-bias approach to Early Childhood Education.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and Administration in assessing the developmental progress of children in the program.
  • Maintain a high skill level in behaviour management techniques
  • Follow fire drill procedures, all sanitary practices and ensures safe work practices are followed at all times.
  • Attend and contribute to the monthly staff meetings.
  • Responsible for the monitoring student placements. Offer support and varying levels of training/coaching/mentoring.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the centre on a 2 or 3 week rotation basis and on occasion will be required for after work duties, i.e. parent nights, concerts, picnic with parents, etc.
  • Performs housekeeping duties, as required.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
 
Qualifications
 
  • Experience in a child care setting
  • Membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Current standard first aid/CPR certification
  • Demonstrate understanding of the CCEYA and the pedagogy of “How does learning happen?”

Inspiring Minds Early Learning Centre provides full day early learning and care for children 16 months to 12 years of age. We provide a stimulating environment designed to meet the needs of each child.
 
Inspiring Minds ELC has a before and after school position available, to work approximately 21.5 hours per week, commencing May 1, 2018. Remuneration ranges from $17.00 - $18.00 per hour and is based on education and experience.
