Designated Early Childhood Educators: (Supply List)

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board is currently recruiting for the DECE supply list opportunities for the 2015-16 school year.


POSITION OVERVIEW:
As a Supply Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) you will be available for both daily occasional and long term assignments. The individual in this position will partner with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning kindergarten program within a classroom setting. This position may also be required to supply in assignments that are scheduled in the before and after school programs. The responsibility of the DECE in the before and after school programs is to provide supervision and age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the extended day program.
The supply DECE will assist in delivering a faith-based full day early learning kindergarten program and environment to enhance children’s cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
-A two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma with experience in a childcare or educational setting;
-Member in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators;
-Knowledge of Ministry of Education full day early learning kindergarten program;
-Experience in planning and implementing age appropriate programs;
-Basic computer competency;
-Knowledge of related legislation and pertinent Board policies and directives such as, but not limited to Administration of Medication and/or Special Services
-Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program; and must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting).


REQUIRED SKILLS:
-Ability to communicate in a professional manner with children, parents, staff and the general public;
-Proven ability to follow organizational policies and procedures in an appropriate and timely manner;
-Strong organization and time management skills;
-Demonstrate knowledge of classroom management.


DESIRABLE ASSETS:
-One year experience as an ECE in a childcare centre and Early Learning Program is preferred however new graduates are welcome to apply
-Current certificate in First Aid and CPR

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR BOTH CORE AND EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM:
-Partner with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to plan and implement the early learning kindergarten program through developmentally appropriate curriculum-based activities;
-Collaborate with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to support individual student’s identified needs, strengths, interests and stages of development;
-Observe, monitor and assess the development of pupils in JK/K and extended day program;
-Collaborate with the classroom teacher and special education teacher to carry out specialized activities to support learning for children requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP);
-Collaborate with extended day team to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the FDK extended day document
-Maintain a healthy, physical, emotional and social learning context for students;
-Provide a variety of experiences to strengthen pro-social skills such as sharing, problem solving and cooperation;
-Provide guidance in washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities;
-Maintain appropriate records for students (e.g. health, attendance, etc.) respecting confidentiality and adhering to all privacy legislation;
-Collaborate and maintain set-up of classroom (e.g. display, organization of materials etc.);
-Where applicable, attend staff meetings, appropriate school-level meetings and professional development activities;
-Perform related administrative functions as required such as attendance and billing in the extended day program
-Complete any duties as assigned by principal.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM:
-Provide supervision and age appropriate programming for children aged 4 to 12 years;
-Perform related administrative functions as required;
-Communicate with parents and school staff as appropriate;
-Facilitate nutrition breaks;
-Complete other related duties as assigned by the principal.


RATE OF PAY (GRID): $20.09 - $26.27 per hour
SCHEDULE AND HOURS OF WORK:
Full-time positions: 7 hours/day plus ½ to 1 hour per day unpaid lunch
Part time positions: 3.5 hours/day


SCHEDULES will vary from school to school and will range from 7:00am to 6 :00pm.
Daily occasional supply DECEs are normally called for assignments that range from a start at 8 am to those that end at 6:00 pm.


Long Term assignments may include schedules that commence at 7 am to 2:30 or 10:30 to 6 pm.

Canada Summer Job position – Family Support Program Assistant

Our Place Family Resource and Early Years Centre is a community-based, not for profit organization which supports the optimal development of infants, young children and their families through universal programs and services.

Main Job responsibilities:
- Under the guidance and direction of the Family Support Program Supervisor, working with the Family Support Program team to develop and deliver high quality Parenting/Adult education and support programs, services, resources and supports internally and with outside satellites and program delivery sites.
- Under the guidance and direction of the Family Support Program Supervisor, responsible for administrative duties, including data base management, program registration, calendar development, program promotion materials.
- Act as a resource for families, ensuring that parents and caregivers have current information available to them on parenting and child development, family and children’s resource services and child care. Assist in the referral and linking process to other supports as appropriate. Provide support to parents and caregivers through the Resource Library.

Qualifications

Lilliput Land Co-operative Nursery School is a licensed preschool for 2-5 year olds in downtown Guelph, looking for additions to our supply list for the remainder of this year (May – June) and again in September, for the 2015 – 2016 school year. Our Place, Family Resource and Early Years Centre is a vibrant Family Resource Centre and Ontario Early Years Centre focusing on early learning and family support.      

Our Place is seeking an Autism Support Program Coordinator for the Integrated Autism Support Program (IASP).  This position is a 1 year part time contract beginning June 1, 2015

Role:
This role will develop and deliver integrated and autism specific programs, for children from birth to age 6 and their families, The ASPC will work to further inclusion and access and provide a range of services and supports, in the universal, community based settings of OEYCs.  

 The Autism Support Porgram Coordinator will work with staff and volunteers throughout the Waterloo Region Ontario Early Years Centres to support capacity building of the OEYCs to provide integrated and autism specific programs.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the position of Autism Support Program Coordinator is energetic, reliable, views every interaction with children, families, staff members and the community as meaningful and is responsive to needs.

University degree or Community College Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, Child Development, Social Work

Have a good understanding of family support, early childhood education, child development and Autism

Proven experience working in a community setting with children birth to 6 and their families

FUNCTION: 
The incumbent is responsible to function as a member of the HFR Program Team to deliver quality programs and services that ensure children and youth are learning in a fun, safe and positive environment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Plan and deliver daily program activities that ensure a warm, welcoming and safe environment.
-Develop and facilitate developmentally appropriate programs and materials for children and youth.
-Set up and take down recreational, program and other equipment as required –checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation.
-Maintain attendance records and information sheets that are accurate and up to date.
-Develop positive and professional relationships with participants, parents – providing on-going, pro-active communication.
-Enforce all rules and regulations and maintain order in his/her designated program as a proactive approach to ensuring safety and accident prevention.
-Take responsibility for the maintenance and cleanliness of program areas (office, equipment/storage rooms etc.)
-Attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required.
-Assumes other duties as assigned.
