Looking for a student ECE to work 2-3 mornings a week for a local Uptown Waterloo family in need of in-home care.  

We have 2 young children, ages 2 and 4. I (Mom) work from home due to the pandemic, and my husband is currently taking on the role of stay-at-home Dad. We are in need of some additional support from a student ECE to come into our home 2-3 mornings a week to help support the development of our children through play and activities. Days and times are very flexible – we are looking for about 10 hours of support a week for $20/hr.

Our Supply Educators work collaboratively with other team members to implement our programs for the children in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, How Does Learning Happen?, Forest and Nature School Canada manual, CECE Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and the Occupational Standards and the policies and philosophies of the school.
  • Ideally, you have completed an Early Childhood Education diploma program and be registered with College of Early Childhood Educators. Other credentials may also be considered (i.e. Recreation & Leisure, Child & Youth Worker, Ontario College of Teachers, or Social Services Worker).
  • You have awareness of children’s emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development and the importance of building upon the four foundations of learning. You have experience working with children in a play based, emergent curriculum setting.
  • You must be able to support children with daily routines (washroom, dressing, meals, etc) and have the ability to support children with diverse needs.
  • Having an awareness of research and practice supporting the importance of Outdoor and Forest and Nature School curriculum is an asset. You have the ability to spend long length of time outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • You have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Must be able to bend, kneel, sit on the floor with children, lift and carry young children, or other program supplies.
  • You have up-to-date Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification, successful completion of Vulnerable Police Records Check within the last 3 months, and up-to-date immunizations including a TB test

Nature & Scope:
YMCA Registered Early Childhood Educators are required to provide professional, high quality play-based licensed child care programs that meet the developmental needs of children 0 - 12 years of age. Registered Early Childhood Educators are responsible for developing and implementing a program based on the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum, while adhering to established YMCA policies and procedures and quality standards, as well as the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act.

Since programs may takes place in a shared space, incumbents must have excellent interpersonal skills in order to maintain and foster strong and positive relationships with school personnel, parents and other educators to promote the delivery of high quality child care services within the community.

Responsibilities:
  • This position requires the ability and flexibility to work a flexible schedule including early mornings and late afternoons. Hours of work may fluctuate to meet the operational needs of the department
  • Some program areas may be based out of shared spaces within community schools, therefore, requiring movement/set up of equipment on a daily/weekly/ monthly basis
  • Knowledgeable on the pedagogical practices of the YMCA as they relate to Early Learning and Child Development and understands the Ministry of Education guidelines and curriculum;
  • Understand and comply with all regulatory items as per the Child Care and Early Years Act, YMCA, Ministry of Education, and others;
  • Must be familiar with the developmental needs of children ranging from ages 0 to 12 years
  • Assist with children’s meals and snacks including set up and clean up;
  • Plan, organize and lead activities for children 0 to 12 years of age to meet the developmental needs of children;

Qualifications:

  • Registered Early Childhood Educator or equivalent
  • Certified Forest and Nature School Practitioner
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C Training
  • Up-to-date Immunization Record
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check
