  • To provide support and assistance to part-time and full-time childcare staff with daily centre routines and in the delivery of stimulating, developmentally appropriate play-based programming
  • To provide a warm and nurturing environment for children and families
  • To ensure the health and safety of the children
  • To act as a positive role model for the children
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education or equivalent would be an asset
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with children in a licensed childcare setting
  • Proven ability to work as an effective team member
 
Pay rate: $16.693 per hour, with an additional 2% in lieu of benefits

Length:  Full-time
Hours of Work:  35 hours per week, Hours may vary – 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. start and 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. finish

Salary:  $55,637.40 - $63,208.60 per annum
Location:  Five (5) Various Children’s Centres within the Region of Waterloo

Description of Duties:
Provides early childhood education programs that meet the developmental needs of children enrolled in the Region’s corporately operated Children’s Centres.  Ensures compliance with the Day Nurseries Act (DNA), Child & Family Services Act (C&FSA), Regional policy & procedures, and maintains the standards and practices of the HighScope Curriculum Approach to Early Childhood Education. Occasionally works after hours for staff meetings, parent/teacher meetings, training and other activities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, principles and practices related to Early Childhood Education, normally acquired through the completion of a post secondary diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education or an approved equivalency through the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario, plus two years direct work experience in a licensed early learning or child care setting.
  • Must possess a current registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario.
  • Must be eligible for HighScope certification with the HighScope Educational Research Foundation within 12 months of start of employment.
  • Must provide proof of and maintain a record of immunizations and negative Tuberculosis test.
  • Must possess Infant & Child CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of and experience with inclusive practice, child development, child guidance, child health and nutrition, and special needs children. Knowledge of and experience with the HighScope Curriculum Approach to Early Childhood Education. Knowledge of the Day Nurseries Act and related Regional policy.  Knowledge of Standard First Aid.
  • Human relations skills, including knowledge of communication and observational techniques.
  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as MS Word to document student notes
  • Must provide an acceptable Police Records Check in order to ensure suitability for working with vulnerable populations.*
  • Ability to read professional journals/manuals and participate in job training workshops to maintain current knowledge in the field.
  • Ability to document observations of children’s behaviour and development each day and create written daily program plans based on observations and knowledge of child development. Maintain documentation on each child in classroom and prepare written reports for meetings with parents, team members, and external consultants. Prepare application packages and supporting documentation for teacher certification with the HighScope Educational Research Foundation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly while interacting with children daily and adapt communication strategies to meet individual children’s needs. Communicates with parents, team members, and other professionals to share information and to solicit feedback and input into discussions, respond to questions and inquiries from parents, and discuss occurrences in the centre with the supervisor and other members of the team.
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.

RECE needed for Bilingual Montessori Program

RECE in a Montessori Program

We are currently seeking a RECE for a bilingual Montessori program.  The qualified applicant must be fluent in French.

Hours: Minimum of 25-30 hours/week with additional hours possible. 
Role: Work in a bilingual Montessori toddler program (18months-2 ½ years) in a teaching team including a Montessori teacher and assistant teacher. Assist in the daily functioning, caring and supervising of children, applying all DNA requirements.  Communicate daily updates to parents.  Head the before or after care program; run activities, supervise, etc., depending on daily work hours.

Qualifications: 
·MUST be fluent in French; communicate with children, parents and staff
·MUST provide proof of RECE qualification or Montessori Certification
·MUST provide a police check free of any convictions that could interfere with a child’s well being
·MUST be available to work daily
·MUST be able to physically lift small children (20-30lbs)
-The candidate must be flexible and willing to work in a new or different environment (Montessori) and adhere to the Montessori philosophy, including reading, taking  additional training on Montessori
-Energetic, creative, independent, innovative and knowledgeable, the candidate will be an asset in a teaching team while conforming to the Montessori programming
-Willing to care for children including feeding, dressing, toileting, cleaning and general daily maintenance/disinfecting of the classroom
- Able to keep logs and daily comments about children and classroom activities
-References from the childcare community (parent, employer, etc.)

Employment Start Date: To be determined, end of May 2015 or beginning of June 2015
Salary: Minimum $15/hour-$20 +/hour, depending on experience and qualifications, includes paid sick days and holidays
Other: Staff children between 18 months- 6 years old can attend the program for free or at minimal cost.

Child Care Teacher Needed

POSITION:Child Care Teacher
LOCATION: Kitchener-Waterloo
REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Child Care Centre
HOURS:Full Time (evenings & weekends as required)
SALARY: $16.03 per hour
START DATE: April 2015              

FUNCTION:  To create a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, while supporting families.  Adhere to the Days Nursery Act and YMCA policies and procedures.

 SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create an environment that is safe, clean and welcoming
Provide materials for children that will give them the opportunity to learn, be successful and grow as individuals
Be responsible for communicating with parents
Work with team members to prepare a quality program that meets the appropriate development needs of the children
Complete program plans as per curriculum requirements
Ensure that a diversified program is developed with established routines that supports and nurtures the development of the child
Set-up classroom for children resulting in an environment that will be welcoming with the various age appropriate toys and activities
Be responsible for written communication consisting of attendance and accident reports, daily communication book recording messages, and the maintaining of information sheets on each child
Administer medication as per requirements
Prepare developmental profiles and conduct parent – teacher interviews as required
 Provide positive child guidance
 Attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required
 Assume other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of Community College ECE diploma or equivalent
CECE Membership required for qualified ECE candidates
CPR and First Aid certification
Familiar with the Day Nurseries Act
Acceptable Police Check     
3-6 months of experience in programming with children and families preferred

Problem Solving:  Identify an issue, gather and process relevant information coming up with possible solutions, select appropriate responses and implement them.
