​Children’s Early Years Pedagogical Leader

This position reports to the Manager of Children’s Early Years Community Services and is responsible to support the increase of quality through capacity building in the early year’s sector throughout the Wellington service delivery area. Through the use of evidence-based research, and consideration of legislative and service system requirements, this position will provide professional development opportunities, resources, and support services primarily for the pedagogical aspect of community based children’s early year’s programmes. Duties also include, but are not limited to, administrative requirements, community training, liaising with community agencies and committees, and adhering to the College of ECE’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

The minimum qualifications for this position include:
  • High School graduation, plus an additional Early Childhood Education Diploma or a letter of equivalency issued by the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario.
  • Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing.
  • Over two years of related full time experience in a direct supervisory/management and/or adult education capacity in the children’s early years’ sector.
  • Ability to recommend changes to established methods or procedures.
  • Ability to solve complex problems by creating and recommending a wide range of possible solutions.
  • Working knowledge of accounting functions, including but not limited to recording revenues and expenditures, and working within an allotted budget for events and resources.
  • Ability to coach and mentor in an inclusive and collaborative manner.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and critical reflection skills.
  • Strong presentation planning and implementation skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with a diverse client group in a professional manner.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Effective time management and decision making skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proven commitment to ongoing professional development and growth.
  • Flexibility and capacity to adapt to change.
  • Knowledge of computers, software, programmes and databases, including Microsoft Powerpoint and Publisher.
  • A valid driver’s licence (minimum G2 Class) and access to a reliable vehicle.

This position offers a comprehensive benefit package and a salary range of: $66,448.20 to $77,459.20 (2021 Union Compensation Grid), based on a 35 hour work week.

​Waterloo Cooperative Preschool is seeking loving supply staff who can dedicate themselves to our preschool to cover off any days our staff cannot do. The ideal person will not rely on steady hours and is flexible to work last minute and for advance notice in our small Preschool alongside a qualified staff. This position requires the use of full PPE at times that is provided. Supply staff may help with screening, cleaning, supervising and meeting individual needs of children and adherence to health and safety policies and procedures. A full orientation is provided.
 
Qualified individuals along with others who have standard first aid CPR and safe food handling certificates and can obtain a clear Vulnerable sector check.

The successful candidate will be employed on a regular part-time basis and may be scheduled to work at the following Child Development Centre: Silverheights – Cambridge. Hours of work may be between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; up to 24 hours per week; split shifts.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and adapts the program/environment to meet the needs of individual children, and implements quality programming for children ages 0-12 years old
  • Ensures that the basic needs of children are met, including health and safety
  • Provides ongoing supervision of all play areas and all activities/routines that occur
  • Communicates respectfully with parents and ensures that messages are passed on to both parents, and other staff
  • Ensures that any unusual situations are shared with Supervisor

The incumbent will support the implementation of quality programs for children aged 0-4 years old. The incumbent is responsible for upholding the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and the Staff Handbook guidelines.

This opportunity is located at the Doon campus in Kitchener. The hours of work are 24 hours per week between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM Monday to Friday.

​Responsibilities:
  • Understands and complies with Provincial, Municipal and Morningside Montessori School Policies.
  • Supports a consistent child-centred program in accordance with the Montessori philosophy.
  • Completes required documentation and observations of children’s development and interactions.
  • Maintains qualifications and certifications as required by Morningside Montessori School and Provincial standards.
  • Support children as needed throughout the classroom work periods, outdoor times, transitions, lunch, diapering/toileting, arrival and dismissal.
  • Engage in open, professional, positive communication between co-workers and caregivers.
  • Cleaning/Sanitization and upkeep of the classroom and other areas as needed.
  • Redirect, guide and support children towards independence in collaboration with the Head Directress.
  • Work together as a collaborative member of the teaching team.
  • Provide safe nurturing supervision and daily programming of toddler and preschool children.
  • Guide, model and support a calm positive environment for the children.
  • Engage actively with the children to support enriched learning experiences.

Qualifications 
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with young children in a childcare setting
  • Standard First Aid Level C CPR, AED (required)
  • Early Childhood Education diploma (preferred)
  • Must be registered and a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (if RECE)
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with children, staff and families
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work any combination of hours between 7:30am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday
  • Have strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Up-to-date immunization record
  • Professional, reliable, flexible individual that supports a team environment.
