Requirements: 
  • Minimum two years experience in ECE field
  • Registered with College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE)
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Current Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management
  • High level of skill required in Reggio inspired programming, collaboration and behavior management
  • Familiar with Day Nurseries Act, Health Care Regulations, Child Care Policies and Procedures, Full Day Learning
  • Experience in financial management- Regional Subsidy, budgeting (development and monitoring), registration, fee collection, maintaining statistics
  • Experience in human resources-scheduling, interviewing, training, mentoring, supervision and evaluation, chairing meetings
  • Excellent written skills-report writing, proof reading, minute taking, filling out forms
  • Excellent communication skills with children, parents/guardians, outside agencies, co-workers
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office; Excel, Word
  • Own vehicle-driving required

Early Learning and Child Care Consultant

Hours/weekly: Monday to Saturday (40 hours per week, daytime and evenings as required)

Overview of the position:
The Early Childhood Community Development Centre (ECCDC) is seeking a highly professional, enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our multifaceted team. In this role you would support our community based training and resource services which could include; facilitating and/or coordinating
professional learning opportunities or network sessions, supporting Niagara’s early learning and child care community with scheduled resource deliveries, environmental design and program planning guidance, developing play based
learning kits, processing library memberships and training registrations, supporting members in the onsite lending library and participating in the promotion of the ECCDC’s services at a variety of community events. 

The primary hours for the position are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; however, evenings and some Saturdays will be required on a rotating basis and as determined by service needs. 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills: 
• Demonstrated leadership abilities in previous supervisory positions 
• Outstanding communication abilities; written and oral 
• Previous experience in facilitating professional learning opportunities 
• Previous experience in program planning using Ontario’s recognized early years frameworks 
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate a variety of training activities including liaising with volunteers; communicating effectively with partners and venue coordination 
• Knowledge of policies, procedures and regulations related to the field of early learning and child care 
• Ability to perform multiple activities and work effectively under pressure within a busy and collaborative work environment 
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and a high level of personal integrity 
• Early Childhood Education Diploma and/or Child and Youth Studies Degree and a strong awareness of early learning and child care services 
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and related computer programs.

Description of Duties:  
  • Provides supervision, support, leadership, and direction to a team of Child Care Subsidy Caseworkers responsible for the delivery of services related to the financial eligibility of families in need of child care subsidies in the Region.
    Monitors and reviews case management practices and eligibility decisions under the mandate of the Day Nurseries Act and Ontario Child Care Service
    Management Guidelines

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:  
  • Thorough knowledge and skill in eligibility determination, assessment and interviewing skills as well as working knowledge of administrative policies and procedures, normally acquired through the attainment of a University Degree in Social Sciences or related discipline, plus related progressively responsible experience in eligibility determination.  
  • Working knowledge of Regional policies and procedures, Day Nurseries Act, Ontario Child Care Service Management Guidelines and Municipal and Provincial Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Acts.  
  • Knowledge of local community and area agencies and the services they offer. 
  • Research, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills to participate in program development, determine eligibility in unusual cases, provide direction regarding policy interpretation, implement operational plans,     develop work plans.
  • Ability to assess business operations and office procedures and suggest improvements. Work requires a high degree of confidentiality relating to sensitive issues regarding client information, divisional initiatives as well as human and financial resources. 
  • Human relations and communication skills to participate as an effective team member; advise, supervise, instruct and train staff in specific work methods or procedures; respond to complaints regarding service provision; and motivate staff to achieve goals and objectives.  
  • Skill in the use of a computer, using such software as the Ontario Child Care Management System, Subsidy Booking System, Web Enabled Record of Attendance, Service Delivery Model Technology, RAP Inquiry, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, Intranet/Internet and an Attendance Management System.  
  • Ability to read and interpret legislation, policies and procedures, relevant collective agreements, various correspondence, and detailed file case notes.
  • Ability to develop and write detailed correspondence, policies and procedures. Ability to present information to individuals, groups, and agencies; and to explain and interpret legislation and policy to subsidy eligible parents, the public, community agencies, political offices, employers and educational facilities.  
  • Must provide an acceptable Police Records Check in order to ensure suitability for working with vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to travel to various locations within the Region.  
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.

Family Outreach Worker ( Maternity Position)

Kinbridge Community Association (KCA) is an organization providing social supports and recreation programs  in two neighbourhoods in South Cambridge.  We are currently seeking a Family Outreach Worker (FOW) to provide supportive services in our Christopher Champlain neighbourhood.  

Position Summary:  The Community Outreach Program is a community-based program created to prevent and reduce the depth of child poverty in Waterloo Region. The goal is to eliminate barriers to employment, education, recreation, transportation, counselling etc. The FOW links families and children to appropriate resources, services, and supports in their community and acts as an advocate on their behalf.  The Family Outreach Worker also offers a variety of in house practical supports, coaching and group facilitation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships and increase engagement with current and potential service users.
  • Provide support in the context of referral making, problem solving and reviewing and discussing options which may lead families and children to better meet their needs.
  • Assess eligibility and provide subsidy for both internal and external recreation programs.
  • Conduct outreach activities throughout the neighbourhood, sharing information regarding Centre program and services.
  • Provide practical support including, but not limited to, bus tickets and food.
  • Liase with other organizations, keep updated information re programs & services available in community.
  • Support families in navigating and accessing various social service systems i.e Ontario Works, Family & Children’s Services(F&CS).
  • Maintain all necessary information and statistics and submit all reports as requested.
Qualifications of this position include:
  • Degree or diploma in social services or equivalent
  • Minimum two years work in social/community services in related position
  • Knowledge of neighbourhood centre model an asset
  • Computer literate, able to learn new applications 
  • Possess excellent communication, organizational and coordination skills
  • Current Standard First Aid Level C
  • Experience and commitment to grassroots community development is an asset
  • Flexibility, strong teamwork approach
  • Empathy and compassion for people in crisis
  • Be open and non-judgemental
This is a full time (30hrs per week) 1 year contract position. KCA offers competitive wages and benefits package.
