Description:
A family living in the North End of Waterloo (near Conestoga Mall) is looking for after school care for their two teenage children with special needs. There is one girl and one boy who are 14 and 13 years of age. Both children have an intellectual disability and one is nonverbal, autistic. We would like interested individuals to supervise their after school chores and then spend time with them as needed. There will be opportunities to do crafts, baking, and other activities to help the time pass. Also, will be allowed to take the children for walks to the local park or mall when the weather permits.
We need someone who can work 3 afternoons a week preferably on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:50 pm to 4:30 pm. Though we prefer those 3 days, we can be flexible and arrange for any three afternoons of the week. If this student works well and develops a good relationship with the children then some summer hours may also be available.
Qualifications:
- Interest in working with children who have special needs
- Knowledge of autism and applied behaviour analysis not required but may be beneficial
- Experience working with children
If you are interested, please send a cover letter and resume to idenbak@sympatico.ca addressed to Irene.
