Salary: $57,694.00 – $65,556.40 per annum
Description of Duties:
Provides integrated family-centered services, including screening, assessment, intervention strategies, service planning and coordination to families with infants and young children from 0 – 5 years of age with developmental disabilities or at risk for developmental delays, in accordance with the mandates of the Child & Family Services Act (C&FSA) and Regional policy and procedures. Occasionally works evenings to meet with families or to conduct meetings or workshops.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Knowledge and experience with therapeutic human relationships to assess needs, build rapport, and plan collaborative strategies across a culturally diverse community; family systems theory, and stages and patterns of infant and child development to identify abnormal/dysfunctional development and patterns of relating; specific family-centered intervention techniques and methods of instruction for infants and children with developmental delays which facilitate infant/child development and healthy parent-child relationships; ability to identify family priorities and provide service coordination; knowledge and direct experience with the administration and interpretation of clinical, standardized, family and developmental assessments (e.g. Mullen, Differential Abilities Scale, Edinburgh), normally acquired through
a Community College Diploma or University Degree specific to child development, plus 3 years of experience, which includes direct work with developmentally delayed infants, family-centered interventions and developmental screening and assessments. - Ability to support and project values outlined within the MCSS Guidelines for Enhanced IDP, and the Ontario Association for Infant Development Best Practices for Infant Development Programs – 2nd edition.
- Knowledge of other public health and social services agencies and supports and of the C&FSA in relation to the responsibility for identifying and reporting
suspected child abuse and neglect. - Human relations, communications, and negotiation skills to interact and communicate with families, children, program consultants and medical professionals; negotiate family participation plans and family service plan
with the family; and facilitate education and training of family members.
Ability to work independently and utilize effective time management skills. - Computer skills using software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, DOCS, and the internet.
- Must provide an acceptable Police Records Check to ensure suitability for working with vulnerable populations.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret literature reviews, research papers, journals and newsletters to remain informed of current developments in assessments, screens, and strategy development for children and families.
- Ability to write assessment reports and correspondence to parents, doctors and other agencies; document observations, impressions, discussions and outcomes from home visits, assessments of child/family, case conferences and telephone calls.
- Ability to discuss observations, interpretations, and recommendations with families and other professionals, and adapt style of communication according to the individual needs of the audience to facilitate their understanding; communicate with families through active listening, paraphrasing, reflecting and reframing, sometimes about emotionally charged issues; and conduct
occasional oral presentations to various groups.
- Ability to travel to various locations within the Region.
- Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
